The hotel is generally unkept and had a very damp mouldy smell at the bottom of the stairs. Our room was neat but I found a few stray hairs so felt like it wasn’t cleaned well. The shower had mould or atleast stained grouting and due to the floor we were on, I couldn’t open a window. There’s no fan in the bathroom so I always felt like it was a very stuffy room. The aircon looked to me as if it also had mould inside. It was black and spotty so either dust or mould, which made me uncomfortable given I’m unable to air the room. The pillows were very hard and some misshapen. The beds are very firm and flat. The staff here are ok.

the hotel is right near colleges and above a nice pizza/bagel/deli and near Astor place and union square subway stations. I would 100% stay here again - great price compared to the rest of manhattan for small quaint quarters. It was a little noisy on the 1st floor from the street but nothing I haven't experienced at more luxurious hotels. I felt safe and slept well and the location was excellent. On Bowery which was a nice street when I walked south to downtown / seaport ~45 mins and 2 blocks from broadway which I walked ~45 mins to Times Square. Ubers weren't too pricey and trains were super convenient.

No frills Hotel. Good if you are traveling alone. Would not recommend if traveling with spouse or a family

I had an exceptional experience during my stay last week, especially considering the price. This is not a luxury hotel—it’s a simple, comfortable place to rest while enjoying New York City. The location is excellent: the subway is literally right in front of the hotel, and there are restaurants and a deli on the ground floor. The area is lively, with plenty of nightlife nearby, and it’s within walking distance to SoHo, the piers, Chinatown, and more. Public transportation access (bus and subway) is right at the doorstep, which made getting around the city very easy. What I really appreciated is that if you arrive early, you can leave your luggage at the hotel, and the same goes for when you check out. That added a lot of convenience. Overall, I loved my stay and would definitely return. For me, this place is a hidden gem in NYC—good, affordable, and comfortable.

A historic hotel and an authentic NY experience. If you’re looking for Egyptian cotton sheets and perfumed pillowcases, this isn’t for you. I wanted a calm, quiet, centrally located, historic and reasonably priced place to stay while experiencing the awesomeness of NY and I loved it.

Good location, dirty old hotel, is only good for one night and to take a shower after a flight.

The property was a good value for your money, but it is very basic bed clean bathroom. They take only cash and there is no elevator.

Hotel could you a refurbishing. The room was clean, but tiny. The hotel room can work for a long weekend with minimal luggage. The location is good, easy access to public transportation lots of restaurants. The hotel room is bare bones, a bed, a bathroom, no closet, one chair.

Really impressed with how clean the rooms are considering it is an older building. Very quaint, such a great deal for downtown, would definitely stay again!!

The location is perfect, staff is excellent. We got a room not facing the street, it’s quiet. The beds and bedding are too old and worn. Upgrading AC can be expensive, replacing bedding is definitely not!

I love that they clean the sheets and make the bed everyday!!! It was so nice coming back from a long day in the city to a clean room. Really nice and quiet area, definitely worth the visit!!
