We chose Hotel Ixua as a three night base for day trips to San Sebastián and Bilbao, both approx 45 minutes each way. Initially, Hotel Ixua can be a bit difficult to find but the view from the top makes the effort worthwhile. From the main road the drive is approx 2 miles up a very curvy mountain road. Take it slow and be careful. Put “Hotel Ixua” in google gps (not the physical address or you will end up in a very wrong place!)
The hotel is relatively new, small and comfortable with clean and minimalistic, basic rooms (we had a superior room). No elevator. Free parking. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Thank you Roberto and Veronica. We had trouble with the WiFi continually dropping but Roberto was able to fix the issue.
Breakfast was basic continental. The restaurant was decent with a local Basque menu and is open to the public. (Note the restaurant is closed on Wednesday for dinner)
Eibar is an industrial town and really nothing to explore so you come here for the setting and the views. Distance-wise it’s a good base for SS and Bilbao however having to drive several times up and down the mountain road became tiresome.
It was a bit in the off season while we were there so too cold to sit outside but would expect that in the summer and warmer weather months it would be relaxing to sit outside and appreciate the views.
