We've stayed here a couple of times before and were looking forward to another trip. The hotel hasn't changed much in recent years and unfortunately it's starting to feel like it needs a bit of a freshen up. Our room had a stale smell when we arrived (it needed to be aired) and the carpets were a bit grubby throughout the upstairs. Staff were helpful enough but not particularly friendly, and overall the atmosphere was lacking. Dinner was good but there is limited choice if you're staying more than a couple of nights. The breakfast menu options were good. The onsite EV charger is a real bonus but note that it is now pay-to-charge. Overall a decent place to stay but lacking the charm and friendliness it once had.

We were walking the Reivers Way. We had a great welcome. The room was excellent, very spacious, clean and comfortable with a bath, just what was needed after a days walk. The restaurant food was excellent and good value. Unfortunately my wife said her hip was hurting. The following morning my wife hip was still hurting so we decided to discontinue our walk and to travel home. Unfortunately because of a road closure the bus from Wark to Hexham wasn’t running. The receptionist, contacted her father who very kindly gave us a lift to The station. For which I gave him some money which was to be donated to the hotels charity ‘Water aid’. A fantastic service by a great hotel. We will return again to continue our walk once my wife is feeling better.

A last-minute decision for us to stay having booked to eat in the restaurant and we weren't disappointed. Our room was spotlessly clean and more spacious than expected. We needed to look for someone in order to check in but in all other respects the staff were very welcoming and attentive.

Had a lovely one night stay, comfortable room and very nice bar with very friendly staff and a resident Cat :) . Food was very good and fantastic breakfast options. They also have an observatory at the back of the hotel if you want to experience Dark Sky astronomy, unfortunately cloud cover on our stay but would certainly go back.

I mean, Northumberland is a beautiful place, and this property was no less beautiful. It is the most eco-conscious hotel we've ever stayed in, with it's own garden, solar panels. and I believe a rain catcher? There's so much wildlife in the area, bird feeders and cats roaming around. We got lucky and there was a bit of clear sky our second night, so we headed to the observatory and got to spots some stars since it's in a Dark Sky Park. It was also a great distance to all the sights in the area, particularly Hadrian's Wall and the Roman Forts. Breakfast was fantastic, staff was friendly, food and drink were great. An overalls really fantastic stay.

The staff were all very helpful & attentive to our needs. The room was very spacious & well equipped with the added gesture of complementary fruit. An excellent range of food to choose from for breakfast & the quality was very good, along with the service. The hotel was clean & welcoming. Would definitely recommend.

Our second visit to this hotel. Not disappointed with the standard of accommodation or the excellent menu. Our room was the accessable room in the ground floor of the main building, well appointed but quite dark. The hotel looks great and lives up to its reputation

Hotel in lovely village with nice walks around, our room was spacious with a large bed, nice touch with the fruit and biscuits. Given a disabled room although we didn’t book one. Lovely gardens and great food both in the restaurant and breakfast. Service disappointing at dinner as we sat with empty glasses throughout meal until we had to go and ask the same with ordering desserts. Lacked a bit of friendliness by staff.
