The hotel looks amazing from the outside with a unique design. We were lucky to get a room upgrade, and we absolutely loved the room. It was very spacious, beautiful, and comfortable. Plus, it was the only hotel on our UK trip with AC, which made a big difference! We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a great place to stay in York.

Lovely hotel, very well maintained in its original style. Staff very friendly and helpful. Good choice of bar/eating areas and places to relax. Room heating was a bit baffling and so it was a bit too warm!

Room was on floor 5, lifts only went up to the 3rd floor then we had to climb 2 flights of stairs. Luckily we only stayed 1 night. Room was big, clean, bed a bit hard but ok. bathroom looked fab with huge bath, however in the evening or morning there wasn’t any hot water, only lukewarm. So just an ornament really. Only thing stocked in the fridge was 1 can of sparkling water! There was tea and coffee, enough for 2 cups. We asked for more milk but it didn’t arrive. Paid extra £18 per person for breakfast. Dining Room was so crowded, had to Que to make coffee, Que to make toast which took ages, the cooked breakfast was ok. Basic cooked breakfast, no vegetarian options. Limited pastry choice. Definitely not worth the charge. Had much better at travel lodge. The pool area was lovely and clean, jacuzzi was warm not hot! Steam room and sauna good. Overall an ok stay conveniently located, parking cost £20 for 24 hours. upgrading to the king size bed and including breakfast we paid £190 for 1 night. I think we could have got better.

The hotel is a beautiful building, great facilities and staff, the only downside for me was our room was a little shabby, stained carpets, no USB points on plug sockets which I think are a must these days, toilet that needed a good few pumps to get it to flush, just little things that would make a big difference.

The hotel itself is beautiful. The lounge and common areas are stunning. Unfortunately the hotel falls down in staff attentiveness and our room was a bit tired with wear and tear. It was very evident that the hotel are short staffed. Waiting at reception to check in. Long wait in lounge for drinks, only one person on duty so when he was off preparing drinks there was no one around. We had a family occasion in one of the function and pretty much had to serve ourselves. Even the manager we spoke to admitted they were short of staff. Breakfast was great with lots of staff topping up the buffet and keeping it tidy. A pleasant stay but let down by lack of staff.
