Air-con really needs maintenance. First time stay hotel using fan. Too hot.
9.1
Hill top view rooms quite alright, bathroom a little outdated, one room no hot water. However rooms is fine for one night. I was a little disappointed that there were chalets as well.
9.1
Satisfying family retreat. Our room is very large, and provided will all the amenities we needed. TV channel reception can be improved. Room for improvement: hopefully the management will provide in-room WiFi in future.
9.1
Room is good and big they have beautiful breach for us on the WiFi line too slow for us to use
5.6
This is the worst room that I ever check in (superior poolside). Especially on the toilet / bathroom. Not clean properly prior to the next guest check in. Used towel still left in the bathroom.

Fine and suitable for family.

Food can be better. The bedroom floor can be wiped with floor detergent to prevent sandy feel after a full busy weekend.
9.3
Air con not cold. Good location. Superior pool side is near to beach and pool.

Check in time in the voucher is 2pm but they ask to check in 3 pm. Called damai beach before booking to check whether have room at ground floor due to elder with wheel chair. Damai beach promised to give ground floor room but when check in they give 1st floor without Lift. Luckily the staff help to carry my mum. Hope they can improve more on this.

Pleasantly surprised
After reading reviews here our expectations were not too high, but the hotel was nicer than expected. The lobby and entrance area gave a good first impression and the staff were very welcoming and always friendly. The pool was very inviting and the beach had wonderful sunsets. We had a superior poolside room, which was very clean and larger than average. The buffet breakfast had lots of choice, however in the evening the restaurant did not have much of an atmosphere. The only slight negatives were that it was very dark in the bedroom and hat the Wi-Fi signal was weak. Overall a very pleasant relaxing couple of nights spent here.

The hotel is old, one of the first beach hotels built in Borneo. It is well situated with beautiful views and outstanding sunsets but it's all too apparent that little property maintenance is carried out. We are regular visitors to Malaysia but this is the first time that we have ever rejected a room. Great view out of the window but double bed sagging in the middle, a bathroom with a hand held shower spray over the high sided bath, very grubby carpet and a general air of neglect. Christina the manager was very helpful, as indeed all the staff are, and eventually we paid a little extra for a very spacious detached Barak suite on the hilltop. The hilltop is remote from the main buildings but a bell system calls a shuttle van which arrives in less than 5 minutes. The shuttle van needless to say is not of a recent vintage but the drivers are always very helpful. There is a splendid swimming pool on the hilltop which on most days we were by ourselves. The main central building surprisingly only has one restaurant it serves a very good breakfast and the evening meals are limited but well cooked. The 40 minute drive each way to Kuching seemed excessive for an evening meal so we ate in the hotel.except for one evening when we walked to Damai Central but cant say we enjoyed the food. It seemed utterly bizarre that in the evenings the hotel was deserted. There is a very large comfortable bar that we went into on three occasions on every occasion we were the only two people in there and when we came out the reception area was also deserted. A hotel booking office arranges a number of tours. We chose a trip to see the Orang Utangs and the Crocodile Farm/Zoo. The guide was exceptionally professional nothing too much trouble spoke perfect English and a wide knowlege of practically everything.

Much room for improvement !!!
It took us about 50mins drive to arrive at Damai beach resort, vista of the South China Sea. Check-in to rustic Chalets Room Nos 307 & 309 amongst coconut palms with Mount Santubong at the background. Unfortunately these Chalets are dated , needs some upgrading, Room 309 is still having tube screen television from the 90 era. Some good housekeeping needed to maintained the room cleanliness , wall tiles has moulds and lamp covers are broken. We were woken up by a dog barking underneath a Chalet nearby followed by Security Guard vrooming his motorbike at 2am to do his patrol around the compound which is totally unacceptable. Cafe Satang has good spread of local and western cuisine, could be better with some croissant & danish pastries too. ! A stroll along this beautiful beach front, watching the atmospheric sunset , this is for sure a great romantic getaway venue if improvement to the property are taken into consideration !!!
