Back home to Tanjong Jara
We returned in June to what we now lovingly refer to as our second home. Once again, we had the most splendid and memorable holiday. Every time we return, we expect to find that something is not quite the same but each time we are never disappointed and the wonderful staff have a way of finding somehow to provide us with lasting memories that are unique to the occasion. For us, there is something magical about Tanjong Jara. Apart from the beautiful surroundings, there is a peace and tranquillity there and the whole experience is enhanced by the fantastic staff that have a wonderful way of being able to make every moment of your time there special and memorable. We are pleased to say that over the years we have developed relationships with many members of the staff that have now become friendships and we keep in touch when we are at home. It is great to exchange information on how the families are doing and who’s had a promotion etc. This year, we went once again on a visit to go snorkelling at Tenggol Island and had a great time. In addition to the wide variety of small, beautifully coloured fish, both turtles and black tail sharks were seen on the day. As always, the staff at Tanjong Jara were magnificent and it is always difficult to single out individuals for special praise. Having said that we must mention Yanna, Chef Anne, Chef Mazz, Captain Mock, Yuni, Rosna, Azza, Zie, Aida, Rakesh, Sukai, Oliver, Kimie and Jazz, who we congratulate on her promotion. We would also wish to make a special mention of and offer thanks to the General Manager, Mr Terence Waller, who we had already had the pleasure of meeting just after his appointment at Tanjong Jara last year. Terence has settled in well there and has done a great job during the last twelve months. In spite of his extremely busy schedule, he again took the time to sit and chat with us on a number of occasions and we wish him continued success for the future. Please pass on our sincere thanks to all concerned. We hope to see you all again before too long.

Service at its best
Our stay at Tanjong Jara was the best way to round off a truly wonderful and active (adult) family holiday, with its welcoming staff and idyllic grounds and ambience. Other reviewers have rightly commented that they found everyone - as we did - from cleaners right through to senior managers - all very willing, cheerful, thoughtful and thoroughly helpful, which made our stay even the more pleasureable. The resort has such beautiful grounds to enjoy just observing and walking through and down to the sun bleached sands, where we were served with iced water and beach towels for the sun beds and canopied Arabian style beds. A night stroll is a must too! We tried two of the three restaurants; which cater for light and a la carte dining ( and chef Ann herself was an experience not to be missed!!), and as vegetarians we didn't miss out on culinary delights ;-) The range of on site spa and Malaysian morning exercises with Captain Mok enhanced our relaxation, as did the infinty pool overlooking the South China Sea with its on site bar and terrace restaurant. The snorkelling and elephant excursions were just 2 of the additional organised opportunities we had time to try (both well organised), and a short taxi trip to nearby Dungun town (which has the nearest ATMs should you need). The green turtle conservation project on the resort beach was an added bonus and opportunity to observe a night time release to the sea, and learn more from the team members about these exraordinary creatures and environmental impacts. We had 3 of the ground floor Serambi rooms (more like suites!), which have balconies that made for additional enjoyment of the rooms and their air conditioning - be aware humidity is the norm here! All in all, what's not to enjoy?! :-)

We booked a Bumbung Room for 2 nights on Jul 7 & 8th, 2017. Tanjung Jara gave us very bad impression even before we arrived. Their dive shop took 2 e-mails and 1 phone call before they replied me. And our ordeal continued after our arrival... When we arrived, the room air conditioning was leaking due to dirt blockage and the bath tub was so dirty. The staircase leading up the room looked old and in need of some new painting. Plenty of dead leaves on the ground. The glass panel outside our room was not cleaned. Overall, the room external looked very much like an haunted house. There was only one bath soap provided for 2 pax and of course, we could have asked for more but that fell below my expectation. Worst still, there was no flexible shower hose inside the bath room. I have a incision done on my back and that part could not get wet. So a flexible shower hose would be handy for me instead of the fixed overhead shower head. Inside the room and around the resort, they applied chemical repellent to get rid of mosquitoes. Instead of rejuvenation, I think we could easily get poisoned. By the way, Banjaran Ipoh uses natural ingredient that is not harmful to human. The only thing that was of expectation and quality was the bed, very comfortable. We also do not have nice thing to say about their F&B. We ordered Tomyam seafood and Tomyam chicken soup for dinner during the first night. The waiter mixed up our orders and we were asked to use another spoon to scoop up the ingredient inside the soup to determine if it was seafood or chicken !! We were not impressed at all. They served complimentary ABC soup. However, the portion of soup in each bowl was barely 2 spoons. We could only have 1 spoon of the soup and we have to tilt the bowl to get the remaining, not such a pleasant table manners, we would think. We were pretty sure they used frozen prawns for the Tomyam seafood soup. They seemed to prefer to serve Chinese food in western style. We noticed their restaurant served imported coconuts juice that was pre-cut and we found Maggi cup noodles in the room, as if they were a 2-Star hotel. Their F & B quality was simply not up to the mark except perhaps the breakfast fruit juices that were very freshly squeezed. Overall, Tanjung Jara is simply not worth the money. They claimed to be 5-Start however minus the quality. We are of the opinion you are only 2 Star.

Just perfect.
We've just finished a four night stay at Tanjong Jara to finish off our Malaysia holiday. We had some real adventures on our way including much trekking, diving and snorkelling. After so much exertion, to arrive at this serene, calm and beautiful resort was simply perfect. From the sounding of the gong to signal our arrival through to our final friendly departure, there was really nothing to fault. I loved the rooms, the beach was wonderful (though the sea quite hard to swim in, so we preferred the pools) and the grounds are gorgeous. But let me tackle the highlights... First, excellent gym by the family pool was well loved by my son. The fridge of cold face towels was a stroke of genius! Food: There are three restaurants at the resort; the main one has a "talking chef" approach where the meats and vegetables available are formed in to the dishes of your choice. The one by the adult pool serves a Korean BBQ and by the family pool you'll find Nelayan which is standard "a la carte" offering a mix of European and Asian dishes. All are excellent but my favourite was the Nelayan; I can recommend the Dancing Prawns and the Tenderloin! The turtles: what a highlight it was to see 145 baby turtles being released into the sea! A charitable foundation dedicated to giving turtles every possible chance for survival is based on the hotel grounds and they check eggs every day in the morning. When there's a night of release, residents are told during their evening meal and then head down the beach afterwards to watch this incredible spectacle by red light. Finally, the staff: Honestly, I am simply stunned as to how wonderful and lovely the staff are at this resort at every level. I've never encountered such a degree of involvement and genuine helpfulness by any hotel I've stayed at before. The resort manager and his assistant manager were so "hands on", friendly and approachable. It's clear they believe in their establishment and this makes such a difference. Captain Mock - he does the morning exercise class, incorporating Malaysian technique with Tai Chi and also conducts the hill walk whilst imparting brilliant stories, pearls of wisdom and knowledge of the various plants and herbs around the grounds. All the restaurant, grounds, pool and cleaning staff - eternally friendly, always helpful. I've never written such a clearly gushing review of a place before but then I've never stayed at Tanjong Jara until now. If you ever decide to stay there yourself, you'll understand.

Excellent on the first sight but already getting up in years
No question - at the first sight the hotel is excellent and the staff extremely friendly and caring. But actually the hotel needs already a full renovation. The interior on the website picture has nothing to do with reality.
