We were ending our vacation, and decided to spend a little more and have the last night at Phoenix. Our reservation got messed up, so the day we arrived we had already been charged the first 400 dollars. The manager was incapable of doing anything, but as it had already costed us 400, she gave us an discount which was more expensive than booking could do it! There you go, We took the room, decided to get the best out of it.. our room was small and the wifi did only work on the hall, the tv signal had it own life and the organization of the place was a laugh. Giving us several key cards which didn't work, so we could walk back and fourth a couple a times a day. For the money, you can stay so so so much nicer in Yogjakarta, for 1/3 of the money you can actually get something better, with better services, rooms and a nicer pool. Never again

Beautiful old colonial hotel
Staff & hotel were excellent. Food was delicious, location very good. Only negative was the midnight & 4am call to prayer on the massive loud speakers that have nearby. Earplugs supplied by hotel didn't help.

Surprisingly disappointing!
I really like hostoric hotels and was therefore looking very forward to staying at the Phoenix! However: It was unfortunately quite ... well, average! It lacks the little bit of extra effort that you would expect from a hotel of this class, especially in Indonesia. Which is actually quite sad, as the building itself is beautiful! I really looked forward to my morning coffee in the courtyard. But the cappuccino - a disaster. The a la carte food - not sure I have eaten anything blander in a year in Indonesia. And all of that pretty expensive. The service - going exactly to where you ask them to, and not a single step further. The reception and concierge - don't know anything that is going on in the city except the usual Borobodur tour etc. for which they book you a car. The shower overflowing as the sink is obviously clogged. And I could go on. Now it is still a nice place to stay, with big beds and big rooms, and in a pretty good location next to the Tugu from where you can walk to Malioboro in 10-15 minutes. For that price (for Indonesian standards) however, I am sorry I expect more.

Nice stay in the heart of Jogja
It was my first stay in Phenix Jogja, and the room was so nice and quite large. The staff is very kind and helpful. Location is near center of the city so you can walk just for 10 min to the famous Malioboro street and enjoy the view there.

Great hotel in Jogya.
Great hotel with splendid service, as well as the staff and facilities. Colonial atmosphere and Magnificent rooms, I stayed in room 353. Very well located near Jalan Maliaboro, only 15 minutes walk. There is a good quality price relation
