Labour Day Holiday

2019 Labour Day Holiday

Since its inception in 1920, Indonesia has participated in the Labour Day, marked on 1 May, but it was only in 2014 that the day was recognized as a national holiday in Indonesia. This decision, taken by Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, was made on 29 July 2013. This day is a celebration of workers’ contributions to the nation’s economic development.

Besides, Labour Day also gives workers the opportunity to voice their grievances. It’s a time for workers to take to the streets to fight for their rights, especially wages. So, Labour Day isn’t simply a national holiday, but a reminder of the hard work done by workers, and everything they’re still fighting for.

Good news for those of you planning to go celebrate the New Year. 1 January 2019 falls on a Tuesday, which means, you will get one extra holiday if you can take the Monday, 31 December off. Take this opportunity to get a long holiday and spend your New Year’s Eve with your loved one.

Meanwhile, the New Year’s holiday in 2020 will fall on a Wednesday. This means the first public holiday in 2020 might not be able to get you anywhere far unless you are able to take holidays either on the Monday and Tuesday or Thursday and Friday.

New Year’s celebration in Indonesia

Besides fireworks cracking everywhere, New Year’s celebration is also filled with a lot of fun activities. Jakarta—the Indonesian capital—definitely brings the most festive New Year’s celebration. Every New Year’s eve, Jakarta holds music concerts with numerous superstars. The Hotel Indonesia roundabout, Ancol beach, and Taman Mini Indonesia Indah are favorite and regular spots for New Year’s celebration in Jakarta. To avoid trapped in gridlock, better to come and visit those places early before the road closed in the evening.

For those of you who can’t be bothered to be stuck in the traffic home, you can easily enjoy the New Year’s Eve at home with your family. Bring your family together for a barbeque night of corns, fresh fish, and beef.

Those dishes might sound simple, but the moment spent together that counts. People will usually gather and even work things out together for a barbeque. This occasion will inevitably bring warmth, joy, and get the family even closer.

Fireworks as the symbol of successful life

There are many ways to welcome the new year. Among the various traditions, fireworks seem to be the most popular choice. Do you know that lighting a firework is a symbol of a successful life? The flame of the fire is often associated with spirit, effort, and a strong determination. The philosophy of lighting firework means that you’re ready to make your hopes and dreams come true.

Of course, a successful life is not something that is easily achieved. You must first crawl from the bottom to reach to the top. Likewise, with how fireworks work, you must lit them at the bottom before it finally reaches the sky and breaks into a bright flower.  These beautiful sparkles show there is no futile effort. The loud noise of explosion is a sign of happy cheering after the hard work is done.

Trumpet blowing tradition

Lit the fireworks in New Year’s Eve is not complete without blowing a trumpet. In the past, blowing horn was believed as an effort to get rid of the evil spirit inside one’s body.

This tradition was then widely spread to the world until today. However, not everyone agrees with tradition, such as the Middle East.

New Year’s forecast

Besides the festivity of lighting fireworks, there is another unique tradition which is New Year’s forecast. In some countries, especially in Asia, New Year’s prediction is a reasonable thing to do. People are seeing a fortune teller to find out their luck in the next year. Even though seeing a fortune teller can cause the Barnum effect—a psychological condition of which a person was given specific information about themselves and become the victim of their own illusion and validation.

In the end, the Barnum effect makes someone to be easily fooled. This causes someone to only wants to hear positive things related to themselves and ignores anything that they don’t want to hear. This actually results someone will difficult to accept the situation and suffered from depression.
