Our stay at the Chateau Laurier was wonderful. Upon learning that my friend and I were celebrating our 50th birthdays and 30 years of friendship, the hotel placed a delicious and thoughtful tray of chocolates and a bottle of wine in our room. Appreciate it so much! We'll be back!

We were very much looking forward to our stay at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier, which we were staying at for 2 nights due to our being out of town to attend a wedding. I had called in advance to see if we could be upgraded from our originally booked queen bed room to a king bed, but I was told because I booked through Expedia they couldn’t handle any upgrades, fine. When we arrived, we were very disappointed to find we were placed in a room that was incredibly small and actually was only a double bed. This is despite the personnel who checked us in “double checking our room credentials”. We are not tall people by any stretch, and I guess our short stature also contributes to our youthful appearance. We felt as though we were being stuffed into a room smaller than what we booked with the assumption we would just “put up with it”. When we called to voice our concerns the way it was handled made it feel like a confirmation of our assumptions and no apology was offered. The next day we discovered one of our keys for our new room wasn’t working. My husband went back to the front desk and spoke to a gentleman who was incredibly rude and refused to help him because the reservation was not under his name. My husband offered to go “get my wife” and the response was “you do that”. Very disappointing service for a hotel that charges nearly $400/night for a queen size bed. The cleaning staff, however, was lovely and very accommodating.

I honestly expected more from a Fairmont Hotel. Our room smelled. My significant other and I waited a half an hour for a drink at the Terrace (which wasn't busy) then decided to go elsewhere. Ordered room service breakfast the next morning and it was luke warm at best. Honestly it was a little disappointing. Not the experience I was expecting...

Concierge was not helpful. We did an early check in with the expectations our bags would be in our room when we got back to the hotel. Even with an early check in, they didn't have our room ready until 5:30pm. They did not bring our bags up to our room. They gave us a room key that did not work. Told them it was out first year wedding anniversary and nothing was mentioned with any of the staff. Pretty basic but at an average hotel, if you mentioned that it was a wedding anniversary you would maybe get a small print out sign on your bed or something.....maybe a congratulations.....old hotel, ridding on their reputation and name, but don't live up to either.

Beautiful building and lobby area, very opulent. Fantastic location. But there the great ends. Room although upgraded to Parliament view and King was just ok, a little tired and in need of refreshing. What disappointed the most was the out dated pricing strategy. Extra $70 for forced valet parking, no space in room fridge due to the in room crazy expensive alcohol and cans selection. Extra charges for basics like in room microwave. Felt like budget airline costing, where they try to squeeze as much extra money out of you as they possibly can. I will not be returning until they price appropriately upfront and include complimentary services like other luxury brands now do.

This hotel scores on its location and historic ambience, within easy walking to Ottawa’s must see attractions. Breakfast offerings were disappointing for what one would expect at a Fairmont Hotel . The food was served cold on our first morning and because of that we chose to eat elsewhere for the remaining 4 days of our stay. Our room on the first floor was small but comfortable and well serviced by housekeeping. Unfortunately our room was situated above a loading area, and our sleep was disrupted late nights/ early mornings by trucks loading and unloading.

Staying at this hotel is a treat. The ambiance, the history, the staff are lovely. It is right in the centre of things, so very convenient. The only negatives are that one needs to wait for the car, wait for the luggage rack. I am fine with taking down my own luggage - everyone is checking out at the same time, there are not enough carts, etc. But it appears that one cannot bring up one's own cart to bring down the luggage, and we had to wait for a porter to be available. The car was another long wait. Staff should tell you to book ahead. The pool is wonderful but there needs to be more chairs.
