Macdonald Botley Park Hotel & Spa

This was a bargain of a price, last minute night away and value for money was amazing. We used the spa facilities, the bar and restaurant and had great service all round. The hotel does look a bit tired in some areas but it was all very clean and had everything we needed. Would highly recommend x

A very relaxed atmosphere with plenty of lounges. A great place to get away from it all and to enjoy the spa if you want.

I arrived at reception and was greeted by a very stressed out young lady who was obviously having a bad day . The room was ok clean but was very tired , the tv didn’t have much in the way of channels and the remote worked when it wanted too . I went out and returned around 9 I went to bed someone was smoking weed the smell got worse and worse so I got ready and went to reception to report it by this time the whole corridor stuck of it , the receptionist said they would look into it but I didn’t hear anything else about it , not a nice smell ! So over all not great

Took my 3 year old son but unfortunately the noise outside our room kept waking him up. Also after breakfast where he ate a piece of undercooked bacon it made him sick. The pool was to cold and only limited hours which stops a lot of families paying to stay. Paid to upgrade my room so lost out all round. Shame.

Visiting family nearby, Botley Park is a comfortable, value for money base. Staff are friendly and efficient. Breakfast is excellent. Ample parking.

I have Stayed at this hotel many times and always enjoy my stay friendly and helpful staff a spacious sauna and steam room with pool unfortunately no jacuzzi, breakfast and dinner have been compromised recently other than this its overall good

In a poor state of repair. Cracks on the ceiling, skirtings coming away from the wall. Kids bed mattress' antiquated, stained and stiching around most of it burst - with stuffing and springs showing. Should be ashamed to call itself a "spa hotel". Changing rooms filthy, showers full of grime and hair. Pool was exceptionally cold - which we heard from other guests that it had been like that for days. Opted not to stay in the hotel for any longer than necessary, walking to the local village for food.

The room was large, clean and comfortable. I loved the bathroom and the products smelt amazing. The bed was comfortable and the room was spacious. The main reason we chose this hotel was because of the swimming pool. The children were looking forward to going in but it was freezing. I spoke to the guy on the leisure reception and he said it would be warm (28) in the morning but it was even colder. We didn't opt for breakfast as I couldn't justify £25 per person.

Good: amazing hospitality, clean, great room service, free car parking. Improvements: pool water too cold, no lift but staff helped with the luggage, fire alarm faulty and went off at 6am however the hotel compensated by providing free late checkout.

Pool was absolutely freezing,making the spa experience pretty poor. However, food and roome were excellent. Wont stay again.

Unfortunately, I agree with other reviewers who say that the whole place is a bit tired. We stayed in room 227 for a weekend away visiting Winchester and to be honest, the room was a little shabby. Tiles hanging off the walls in the bathroom, with ingrained mould stains on the sealant, the shower was pretty pitiful, toilet seat slightly loose etc. The room itself wasn't too bad, but the decor is a bit dated. The dining area of the hotel is also a bit shabby, with all the window frames peeling or showing signs of significant wear, it was also really dark, the lighting is poor. At breakfast, staff could do a better job of policing the food self-service area, several times I saw children picking food up with their fingers and putting it back (bacon, sausages, cheese etc) and we all know children can be a little lax on hygiene! I don't mind children being around (we came away without our two), but we had an especially rowdy crowd one morning and staff could have seated older guests away in another section, rather than together. I feel the place just lacked an experienced Maitre d' who would naturally know how to sort all these issues and keep staff vigilant. Agree with other reviewers that this place needs to decide what it wants to be, because at the moment it was no better than staying in a Travelodge, in fact I've had nicer rooms in Travelodge's at half the price. Positives are that all the staff were really friendly, couldn't fault their overall attitude and location is good.

Lovely and peaceful however, the bed wasn’t comfortable and the toilet cistern had a problem.

My go to hotel and this will not change - love it and tried a different room this time which was fab.
