A little off the beaten track, but welcoming and well kept. Room was clean and well-appointed. Food in the restaurant and room service was very good, albeit very expensive. And Dula the lobby cat, while a little lethargic, was a happy surprise.

While the hotel itself is fairly good in many ways there were some truly terrible downsides. (1) We arrived early on an international flight and had previously informed the hotel that a check-in prior to 3 pm would be very welcome if possible. They had previously said they would annotate our account and do what they could, though there would be a (reasonable) charge if it was possible. But when we got there the treatment was very rude ("we told you it is 3 pm" and "if you wanted to check in this early you should have booked the previous night" which is very different from a reasonable additional charge quoted earlier, plus too late now). When we came back a few hours later to check on the status it was even ruder and we told not to bother to check back till it was 3 pm. (2) We hung out in the lobby but were never offered any amenities, and only discovered the next day that there is a bar and restaurant elsewhere in the hotel that we could have gone to. (3) When finally in the room--totally exhausted after 36 hours without sleep--we find that outside our window, barely meters away, was a full scale construction project actively, very noisily working, well past any reasonable hour, actually not ending until almost 9 pm and starting up again at 7:30 am. You can imagine how well one can sleep with that going on. Plus one needs to have the window open to get any air circulation or coolness into the room, so the noise is even worse! Rooms facing construction should not be let!

The staff was very nice but the restaurant was incredibly expensive and there was a marked difference in the updated design/ “luxury level” of our room and another room in our party - even though we were only three doors away on the same floor. Also it’s very close to a major highway and the room was pretty noisy.

Grand Reykjavík is a welcome addition to the hotel locations in Iceland. The hotel has a significant issue with the plumbing. Slight sulfur in the hot water is normal everywhere in Island. The problem seems to be the cold water working in the sink and shower. It doesn’t really work. A scalding hit low pressure shower was the only available. At the premium level of room pricing this should not be the case.

I didn’t do enough research for our one night stay before departing on a cruise from Reykjavik. I chose this one due to proximity to cruise ship terminal, but it was a bit too far out of the way for other attractions. Although the walk along the water to get to the main areas of the town was nice, it was a bit long. Not sure if it’s a thing in all Iceland hotels, but the biggest problem was there was no climate control at all in our room. No thermostat at all. So, the room got uncomfortably warm overnight. There was one electric operated window up high, but any benefit of opening it was pretty much negated by having to have the heavy drapes closed due to only 4 hours of darkness this time of year. Hotel didn’t appear to have any air conditioning at all, which, again, could be all hotels in Reykjavik? The lobby and hallways were too warm as well.

Average property. Family Room was basic eventhough they said its an upgrade for VIP members. Water had a strong smell...when asked they said its common in iceland which is not right. 2 nights we stayed at a diff hotel they had clean water..no smell. Room was bit stuffy. Beds were okay. Staff was ok...helpful in some cases.

Very nice luxury hotel, excellent breakfast, great views from high floors. Family room right on busy highway, noisy and depressing despite the spaciousness and the nice kitchen. Management was kind enough to give us an excellent room removed as much as possible from the various highways, and the duller roar was made easier by the very nice view. Lots of highway noise. Adjacent to large property under construction, I think it is an expansion of this hotel (not sure). We were fortunate that the site was not active during our stay. This hotel is not in the charming area of downtown Reykjavik, which is about a two mile walk, mostly not on busy roads. Close to a location with a row of a variety of good restaurants, and the hotel dinners are probably excellent, given the quality of the breakfasts, and seem well priced. So I recommend you try their restaurant first.

Grand Hótel Reykjavík is located about 10 minutes from the city centre — not walkable, but conveniently positioned with easy access to the motorway, making it ideal if you’re heading to or from the airport or planning to explore areas outside the city. A big plus is the free and ample parking available on site. We stayed in Room 248, located on the first floor. It was a twin room facing outward toward an area with some ongoing construction. Despite that, the room was quite pleasant in size and functionality. It included a coffee machine, a good-sized wardrobe, and a hairdryer placed conveniently near a mirror. The room also had a fridge, which was a nice upgrade compared to other Icelandic hotels we stayed in. The top section of the window could be opened, which was helpful for ventilation. The beds were a bit unusual — made up of three layers: a base, a softer middle layer, and then a top piece with bedding that seemed more like a padded cover than a true mattress. It was functional but not the most comfortable. The bathroom was decent, with heated floors (a nice touch). The shower was located over the bathtub, with a partial glass door that could be moved. The toiletries were attached to the wall, and there was moisturiser available as well. Practical, but nothing luxurious. Breakfast was served in a large dining area that extended into two rooms. It was well-stocked and covered a wide range of options: • Two types of eggs • Bacon, sausages, baked beans, and cylindric
