Distinction Coachman Hotel, Palmerston North

Very handy to shopping centre and food places, just old and tired

Clean & tidy. Staff were courteous and helpful when I rang to request a foldaway bed as an extra for the room. Check in / Check out was fast and easy. Hotel was a good walkable distance to Esplanade Park, supermarket & Plaza mall. No update on webite/booking sites to indicate spa pool not available & swimming pool water was very milky & cloudy. You would not see a child at the bottom of the pool in that water. The water definitely needs attention, and we would have enjoyed swimming in a clean & clear water pool. Noticed there were no signs indicating the depth of the pool and the area is visible to anyone attending an appointment at the hairdressers which backs onto the pool area. Buffet breakfast was not an option, so we had to order our cooked food ... still paid the buffet price which was disappointing. Otherwise, it was a nice stay.

The room size was nice, but extremely out dated, bathroom smelt of mould, mould on celling and broken tiles in bathroom. When I arrived I asked to be moved because the room we were fist put in smelt so of mould I couldn’t imagine letting my young children sleep there without getting sick if I had more time to re book elsewhere and Christmas being so close there would have been no way I would have stayed there. Staff did move us thankfully. Personally won’t ever stay there again or would recommend. Actually very displeasing. I came to view the room about 3 months ago and was told by staff the room was being renovated, and couldn’t view. I told the staff members if I knew the state of the rooms there would be no way I would have booked to stay here in the first place. I called a week before my check in and was told we would be placed in a newly renovated room. However we went. Bad communication from your part. Like I said if we didn’t feel the pressure of Christmas and being worried we wouldn’t find a place with two kids I would have insisted on my money back.

I had a good stay here although the traffic was noisy, this was a Thursday evening before a racing weekend, so i get that its a town thing.

The staff and service was great. Dining room food and service exceptional. The rooms and general conditions of the building and surrounds in need of an update and overhaul. Decor very very tired.

Great place to stay, close enough to walk to town. Clean and comfy although a bit dated and old but they are renovating. Would recommend letting people know when booking that you are renovating so they are aware. Pool and spa were not available for use (unclean). Staff were friendly and helpful.

On entering the reception old musty smell,maybe the carpets. Bathroom dirty around the floor edges,bathroom floor sticky to walk on,shower rose leaked water

Staff were lovely, friendly & helpful. Bed was ridiculously soft and uncomfortable.

Motel rooms are old,.dirty and unkempt. Cobwebs on walls and ceilings, filth on extractor fans and walls. Furniture is falling apart. There was even what looked like boogers wiped on the walls. Very grim experience and not worth the money paid.

Old and tired, needs a major renovation. The bathroom sink was cracked and the water drained extremely slow.

The whole point of booking here was so we could use the restaurant being a Monday and everything else would be closed. Because they had an outside group booked for the restaurant we were unable to get a meal. Very poor when the chef dictates who gets fed and who doesn’t

An absolute lie from the wording and photos of the room I book to where I stayed. Supposedly elegant 4.5 star …. The room wouldn’t even be a 3 star. Shameful they can get away with advertising how they do!!

The bed was awful, there was mould in the bathroo. The heater smelt lilenit was going to catch fire, spiders and cobwebs around the room, wall paper peeling. Dirty finger prints all over the doors and walls. Stove top was dirty. I am digusted that this room cost us $240 AUD. We booked this from Australia just looking at the photos it looked ok. I have stayed in way nicer hotels on this trip that i paid less for. Absolutely disgusting

The room was very outdated and had a bad sewage smell in the bathroom. This room was nothing like what is advertised on the internet. Staff were great and tried to accommodate us with another room, however this property was fully booked.

Expensive room. Rated 4.5 star. Maybe 30 years ago. Nothing had changed since the 80s. Heat pump was 20 years old and didn’t work. And the whole property had a musty smell. Never again

The state of the room was disgusting. Stains all over the carpet, dirty walls, ripped peeling wallpaper

The Tudor style and open fine in main rooms

Have stayed here before.Another very pleasant stay.Will be back.
