Great for a night away.
We have stayed in a couple of hotels in Paihia, but always come back to the Kingsgate Hotel.
The rooms are always clean and comfortable. We stayed in a king bed room which has a small seating area with a table and a couch.
Bathroom was clean and tidy.
Would recommend to couples or family’s.

Good quiet stay at the Kingsgate over Easter 2025. We missed the rains, but we could see the effects of it around the place. I still enjoyed my stay and friendly staff there.

We arrived early, hoping to check in, but the front desk agent—who was on a smoke break—told us we’d have to wait. I mentioned that I’m a VIP and that my booking included early check-in, but she dismissed it and suggested we go into town for lunch and return later. After doing so, we were eventually allowed to check in about 30 minutes early. We were also eligible for a complimentary room upgrade. Judging by the number of empty parking spots, it was clear the hotel wasn’t fully booked. When we returned an hour later to inquire about the upgrade again, we were told the only available upgrade would be to a suite, which wasn’t offered to us.
The room we were given had a strong musty smell from the moment we walked in. We had to keep the door open as much as possible for the entire three-day stay just to air it out. We had also hoped foot any kind of upgrade to a balcony or the 2nd floor but it wasn’t to be.
A cyclone passed through during our stay, which knocked out power for about 14 hours. The hotel did offer a complimentary breakfast with toast, jams, cereal, etc., which we appreciated during the outage.
Later, once the storm had eased, we asked the front desk if we could borrow umbrellas to go for a walk. We were told not to bother, that the umbrellas would just turn inside out, and were advised to wear jackets with hoods instead. Surprisingly, they refused to provide any umbrellas at all. I was happy with the room I booked as we could access it via a lift. The staff were super friendly, especially Trina who does breakfast and evenings. The breakfast surpassed our expectations. A five minute walk and we were at bars and restaurants. So location was great as well. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

First stay at the Kingsgate and absolutely loved it. Close walking distance to the restaurants, and main shops. Friendly and accommodating staff. Comfortable beds and parking. Our little daughter loved the pool. We stayed here overnight before a day trip out to Urupukapuka Island. Will definitely look for deals here when we visit again, but will include the breakfast option.

They didn’t have good WiFi. It was in fact unuseable. Staff just made excuses but all guests we spoke to couldn’t use/connect to WiFi. I chose this hotel because it said WiFi - I had work to do as our stay was for 6 nights.

Do not book this hotel if you require wifi, it does not work. The staff were apologetic and said management are aware of the problem but have not rectified it and this has been going on for a very long time.
We have been travelling around new zealand for a month and have had no problem in connecting our uk phones to wifi in pubs, motels, cafes etc. so it is not a problem with our phones.
We were paying over 300NZD per night for our suite but had to use the pub down the road to gain wifi access.
On the upside its a good location easy walking to local bars and restaurants. The unit was clean but does need an update of new furniture as there were sofa beds to sit on which were very uncomfortable.

Excellent stay at the Kingsgate staff where very helpful with a confused start, views are wonderful from the junior suite and room has plenty of space to spread yourself around. Would stay again
