This hotel is brilliantly situated on beautiful Lake Tekapo. I was glad I paid for a lake view - it was so worth it. The room was simple and a bit shabby but had everything I needed for one night, and I was able to park very close. I would definitely stay again.

We were surprised when we got to our room how dark and unappealing it was. Not at all like the picture on Expedia. We immediately left and kept driving to Christchurch realizing we would get no refund. Don’t be tricked by the pictures.

I understand that this location is in a cool climate but the day we stayed was very hot and no Airconditioning.
As well limited windows to open so no air flow through the night

Great location, clean, but property is run down. "Balcony", really more of a hallway door, opens with everyone else's balcony so no privacy. There is no air conditioning so you have to open the balcony door if you want fresh air. Neighbors were loud , (not the property 's fault) and smoked, so you heard and smelt everything.

Property was terrible, very basic motel and very old and very expensive for what you get. TV would working on app's and when asked the reception person to have a look he couldn't get it to work either.

The Godley Hotel is what it is - bed and a shower for a reasonable price compared to other options in the area. The room was cramped and poorly lit, dated and drab decor. Walls are thin and without drawing the blinds (so no light) everyone has a nice look in. Bathroom extremely utilitarian with low water pressure in the shower, but no issues with hot water. If you’re expecting a 3-star experience this is not it. But the staff were friendly, the bed comfortable enough, fair price and good location.

Stay was fine. Room was fine, just a bit tired looking. Bedsheets were nice and crisp.
It was very dark inside the room, and felt like we had to draw curtains if inside the room as we were located at the top of the stairwell - where everyone would naturally look in. Would suggest placing a tint on the window.
I guess for tekapo this hotel was appropriately priced compared to competitors.

However, the presence of numerous parked cars can obstruct the view, which may be disappointing for photographers or videographers. While the room is clean, the amenities feel outdated, particularly the elevated bathtub, which poses a challenge for older guests like my parents in their 70s. It also presents a tripping hazard when entering or exiting.
The room's size is another concern—it’s quite small for three occupants and feels cramped for movement, making it less suitable for families or larger groups. In my 30 years of travel, this is the smallest hotel room I’ve encountered. On the positive side, the location is excellent, with close proximity to shops, bars, and within walking distance of the Good Shepherd Church, a key attraction. This property is best suited for young couples seeking a convenient and scenic location.

Amazing location and staff were friendly. The property itself looks dated but other things make up for it. Absolutely loved our stay and definitely recommend it.
