Ala Moana Honolulu by Mantra

This is my second stay at the Ala Moana. The reason why we came back here is because we loved how convenient the location is. It is connected to the Ala Moana mall which has a Foodland and also a 5 minute walk to Donquiote. The staff are all very friendly and rooms are clean.

We’ve stayed at this property multiple times. Had wonderful times. But this time I cannot give Ala Moana Hotel by Mantra a top mark. Not after being essentially accused of skipping on paying our bill. When I checked in, we were convinced to upgraded to a balcony room with view. As usual, ID and credit card were handed over to complete the transaction. Paper was signed. They handed over to us room cards. Then one evening 4 days later—yes, 4 days—we arrived back to our room to find we were locked out. Unbeknown to us, it turns out the hotel did it deliberately. We talked to 4 different staff members to get it unlocked, but none disclosed to us why we were locked out. But 5 minutes after regaining entry, a phone call: “come down and pay your bill immediately.” Not a peep over the previous four days, not a call or polite message, and this is the way they choose to contact us about a bill that their staff had failed to complete a transaction for on day one. Lock them out! And later, not a single word of apology from management for our crass treatment (we complained twice). We grew up in Hawaii. This is a perfect example of an utter lack of Aloha. Very disappointed. We asked our local friends if we were over-reacting---they were appalled. Funny how this undeserved accusation tainted our entire one-week stay.

The room was sort of okay,but certainly left a lot to be desired. One should be warned about the trash truck showing up at 0300 to 0500 on Monday morning. The room was small and crowded and with just the bare essentials, and I mean bare.

Stayed in one of the newly renovated room. Was nice, didn’t really notice any difference from old. Room could use an additional chair and tv check out but these are not deal breakers.

The Ala Moana Hotel is our go to hotel when visiting Oahu. The rooms aren’t very spacious and the decor could use some sprucing, but it’s clean and the location is excellent. It’s right next to Ala Moana Shopping Center and a 5 min walk from Ala Moana Beach. So convenient. It’s a good value for the price.

It was very calm and relaxing. Most definitely going back on my next stay.

The first thing we noticed were the stains everywhere; especially on the chair that we never sat on. Most of the outlets did not work, anything we tried to plug in just kept falling out of the socket. They only provided us with two small pillows for the bed which made sleeping a little uncomfortable.

It was a nice place overall, I like that it was right across from the shopping center. The room was a little smaller than I expected. The room I chose advertised that it was a partial ocean view but I had no view of the ocean, only of the mall parking garage. Maybe because I was on a lower floor? Staff was nice and friendly. The only thing I really disliked was that there wasn’t an ice machine on my floor, I had to go to a different floor to get ice from a machine that barely worked.

The room was pretty accurate to the picture on the site. The pool area was actually way nicer than what was pictured so that was great. There is a sky bridge that takes you to the Ala Moana Center Mall which turned out to be a wonderful bonus! Breakfast at Cafe 410 was alright but we preferred going to the Liliha Bakery at the mall. Service was better and the food was AMAZING! I can’t say there was anything exceptional with the service from the hotel staff but overall, a nice stay and reasonably priced for the location.

Check in was a nightmare! Over 100 guests waiting after two international flights came in at the same time. It took 40 minutes. They did, however, provide fresh baked cookies for guests in line. Rooms need updating. Stains on carpet a d old furniture. No writing tablet or pen. Service was very friendly and professional. I heard from the valet guys that they are doing renovations on a floor by floor basis. It needs it.

Convenient to shopping, beach, great staff, nice room. Parking was a bit expensive even with discount for staying at hotel.

Pros: The property was convenient to everything. Housekeeping and most of the staff were very accommodating and attentive. Cons: The desk clerk that checked us in was very rude! He tried to put us in a city view room despite my reserving and PAYING more for a partial ocean view room, even after I showed him my confirmation that CLEARLY stated PARTIAL OCEAN VIEW. Then he wanted to argue with me about which tower we had stayed in the TWO previous times we stayed at this hotel. YES! We have stayed here TWICE in the past, so know the property well, so we KNOW where we have stayed in the past which is how I knew which tower to request. Yet he STILL wanted to argue with me. It wasn't until I asked to speak to the manager that he gave in and put us in the tower I requested AND PAID FOR! The last time we stayed here the desk person was very accommodating and went out of her way to put us in the room that we wanted. This guy had no CLUE what customer service was and did not care that this was our THIRD stay with them. Other cons. Property is getting very worn. Hallways smell very musky. Beds are worn out. Three times during our 8 day stay we were given pillowcases that had holes and tears in them (you would think this would be noticed when they made the beds). The first day we did not have a shower mat in the tub so nearly fell trying to take a shower although they brought us one so WE could put in in. I would find somewhere else for the money they charge. Not worth it anymore!
