We booked this as a long weekend staycation. We had forgotten how unique this hotel is. They have bee colonies on the third floor mezzanine. Very cool. The rooms, the atmosphere and the staff were all on point. One of the best stays we have had downtown. Highly recommended.

We booked a little getaway to celebrate our babymoon, and it was between this hotel and The Godfrey. Despite this hotel being more expensive than the 5-star Godfrey Hilton, we decided it would be a special place to celebrate the occasion. My wife, who had booked the hotel under her name, informed the hotel what we were celebrating and was disappointed there were not efforts in even a congratulatory message from staff in our room. Having stayed in many 4- and 5-star hotels, we were displeased with the lack of amenities, toiletries, no fan in the bathroom (very uncomfortable—especially for a pregnant woman struggling with hyperemesis), disgusting white stains on the velvet couch, and a blackout curtain that allows all the light in because the curtain itself is fit to just the frame of the window—so having the unfortunate luck of a migraine on Saturday morning was miserable. We should have prepared ourselves mentally that this would be the case—as check-in was loud, chaotic, rushed, and dismissive. In the room itself, you can hear ALL comings and goings from loud traffic and even obnoxious guests from the hotel across the street, and you can also hear everything and every door slam from the hallway. There is no suitcase holder in the room, no ironing board, and no true ease for guests spending $200/night, and I am not one to complain or be this disappointed in an establishment, but I expect far greater for the price we paid.

We spent one night in Detroit and wanted a unique hotel experience. Loved the Detroit Foundation, a great hotel in a historic building. Everything was perfect, location, rooms, restaurant, and the energy of downtown Detroit.

Restored five story fire house with great bar and restaurant. Restoration blends historic charm wil updated amenities. One point off for a bit spartan room amenities and a poorly built shower pan that had me standing in water.

The Junior Suite was trendy, unique, and very different than any other room we've stayed in before. It was perfect for the weekend. We enjoyed the location as there is a Starbucks one block out the door as well. The view of the Detroit River was beautiful in the morning. We would definitely stay at the Detroit Foundation again. Shoutout to John and Jordan for great customer service!

Love the converted hotel feel. Lovely location and proximity to Detroit amenities. The restaurant is truly top tier, one of the best in the city no doubt. So good, Even non hotel guests were at the restaurant all three meals. Also loved the smaller details of the hotel like the beehives on the second floor and the library shelf on the third floor.

The Foundation is a historic building, an old firehouse that has been converted to a hotel. The hotel rooms are decorated in an art deco / mid century blend of decor and there are many original preserved details throughout the property. The terrazzo flooring is in mixed condition and I found it to be very cold. I would've preferred hardwood or carpet. The bathrooms are tastefully renovated and I loved the toiletry items provided (Le Labo Santal 33, which smells amazing). I did not eat at the restaurant, but the ambience was nice and the menu looked good.
