We like everything. This was our first trip to St Louis. The hotel and surroundings exceeded all our expectations. We booked 3 rooms and they got us all on the same floor. It was Christmas and the decorations and festivities were wonderful.

Overall, our stay was as wonderful as expected. However, I have to state that I was disappointed in 2 things related to the room itself (1416). While the room overall was nice, the couch near the windows showed extreme wear and tear with torn threading along the seams. Quite disappointing for a purported 5 star and expensive hotel. As I was staying with my wife, I expected there to be 2 robes for us to lounge. However there was only 1 hung from the bathroom door hook. These may be small details, but that is what I paid a premium price for my wife's staycation birthday present. Examining our appetizers and drinks in the lobby, we were not disappointed and our waiter (Tanner) was top shelf. Examining the breakfast at Don Alfonso, the quality and variety of dishes was excellent as was the service by our waiter (Glen).

The hotel was very beautiful. The noise level was high due to weddings and bands playing on the lower floors during my first night. It was hard to get to sleep until after 11:00 PM. Double charged for the room which wasn’t fun but was able to get it resolved quickly.

There isn't anyone manning the front desk and had to knock on the door just to get a server in the front lounge area. The restaurant service at Casa Don Alfonso was poor and the food quality was below average. There is no attention to detail in the cleanliness of the hotel, i.e. black mold in shower, dusty lobby fixtures. Not what you should expect at a Ritz Carlton hotel.

I expected to see a shuttle from the airport -- or at least advice about the location of a taxi dispatcher and approximate fee for the taxi. More importantly, I was not aware that the MetroLink service maintains a stop immediately behind the hotel and would have cost me about a tenth as much as the taxi and would probably taken me to the hotel much more quickly at the end of a very-stressful day. (I phoned the hotel from the airport because I couldn't find a taxi stand and needed advice on how to reach Ritz-Carlton. No one suggested that I use a train or tram, as I have done in many European countries. I did use MetroLink on Friday to visit Forest Park.) I also found the neighborhood very sterile and forbidding -- no place to buy chewing gum or throat lozenges or fresh fruit. Dining options in the hotel were very unsatisfying and expensive.
