I’d say the overall rank for this property was average. The staff talked really quietly for me to hear them most of the time, but other than that it was okay. Breakfast area was nice but very limited options. The room was clean and the parking lot was spacious. If I’m staying here for only a night, yes, but no longer than that.

Affordable and reliable

University Place was a decent place to stay for a short period of time. We stayed for two nights. The room was relatively clean but dated (it needs some major updating, the carpet replaced, better beds with sheets that fit the beds, and a good breakfast bar), did not have many amenities, the breakfast was limited. There are so many homeless people lying all over the place. I would not have felt safe to walk around there alone. With all that said, we would stay here again as it is close to transportation, the hospital, restaurants, and the people that worked there are super nice.

Good place to stay if you want to walk and explore the downtown Portland area. I’ve been in cleaner hotels but staff was great and complimentary breakfast plus the cheap parking was unbeatable.

Great property close to many things downtown but felt tucked away. Price for room and parking was excellent for the area. Lots of staff on hand to help. Loved the courtyard / small pool area. Older but seemed well-maintained & comfortable beds. Bus connection right across the street as was a great community track. Definitely will stay here again if in the area!

Front desk was odd checking in, I felt like I had to ask about all the important information instead of it being provided. Parking is paid only and you’d think they would immediately discuss it. Instead it felt like pulling teeth getting clear info. The decor hasn’t been updated since the late 80s, for some reason the outdoor hallways are carpeted and the carpet is ripped up in many places. The pool was small and packed. My ac unit was right under the black out shades and the airflow would just get caught underneath the shades without circulating in room. Only solution is leaving shades open. The shower had the same pressure as a garden hose and it took forever to wash the soap off. I’ve seen bigger tv’s as menus at breweries, the size was laughable.

Enjoyed stay Was noisy first day at pool And hotel. Lots of kids and families. Was convenient to get to places by car in Portland and easy access to local transport which we did not use. Breakfast worked for us Paid parking was more affordable then all other hotels in downtown Portland

The hotel was conveniently located with a lot of parking in the parking lot. That’s nice, because sometimes you have to pay a lot of money for parking and garages or for valet parking. Yet, they charge $13 a night for parking which is definitely cheaper than many places, but just seem a not so reasonable garbage fee. Our room was dark. And a king size bed, and the door faced out onto the parking lot. Next year, your hallway just had lots and lots of laundry in garbage bags. The swimming pool was sort of fun, but that’s the only amenity we used. We actually went and got a different place to stay because There are definitely better more upscale accommodations in downtown for a similar price. The staff was super sweet! Everybody’s very kind, our check-in was super smooth, and all of our questions were answered. I think if one’s looking for a budget room that’s conveniently located in Portland, this would be it.
