Coogee Beach House

Our entire stay at Coogee Beach House was great. The hostel is very close to the beach and the bus stops. The hostel is cleaned daily, though it’s really hard to control if some of the other guests are not tidy and considerate. My fiancé and I stayed in a shared room. The bed was comfortable. I would just suggest that the management separate guests who are purely tourists from those who are staying long-term to make the stay more comfortable. I’ve observed this in other hostels as well, when there are long-term guests, it feels like they take over the whole room as if they own the place. I understand that some are on working holiday visas, but there are guests who are on pure holiday and just visiting. We also had a safety concern about the hostel. We noticed that the main door wasn’t being locked at night. We discovered that the woman we saw entering at night was homeless and had been seemingly entering the building without restriction for months. We don't know whether the night duty manager is aware of it. So what’s the point of the key the doors aren’t even locked? And we had to pay for $20 key deposit. Although, the hotel manager and the staff addressed this issue immediately. The night manager on duty maybe needs to improve in terms of safety and handling guests’ concerns at night. Nevertheless, we commend the hostel manager, Daniel and for taking action and addressing our concerns. This is not just for us but for future guests as well, and for his business.

Room smelt like arse! Other guests had alarms going off every 8minutes from 2.30am through to 8am! No towels provided but not mentioned when booked (had to dry myself with a t-shirt). Bunk bed is noisy and shakes with the slightest movement. Very little room for bags etc.

The beach house was very close to the beach and takeaway shops. It was also great value for what we paid ($33 per head, per night) - the rooms were decent, with toilet and shower facilities, and access to a kitchen and living area. The kitchen had free food and cooking basics (oil, salt, condiments). We also got breakfast (self-serve) each morning, which was decent. I did spot small cockroaches running around the kitchen every now and then, and there wasn’t much space in the fridge or ‘pantry’ to store items, but it wasn’t a big deal. The TV in the living area seemed to have Netflix or access to some other streaming application (I didn’t use it, but some of the other guests did). The other guests staying at the hostel were friendly and polite. Overall I was fairly happy with my stay, and I would consider coming back again.

Les chambres sont propres (il faudrait quand même enlever les toiles d’araignées) mais les draps sont propres et les lits comfortable. Les salles de bain sont plutôt propre. La cuisine est vraiment dans un mauvais état et la pièce de vie... on n’a pas envie d’y rester !! Mais bon pour quelques nuits ça va.

Fantastic location, wonderful staff, excellent facilities. Good number of bathrooms, love the washing line option. Breakfast is great. Plenty of crockery/cooking utensils in the kitchen. Bedrooms are nice with a decent amount of space - with clothing rails and hangers, to boot! The covered balcony is lovely and spacious. The living room is comfortable and relaxed. Atmosphere is friendly and chilled, even at weekends. Good proximity to supermarket, restaurants, BARS, buses, and the beach. CBD is easy accessible via 373 & 374 buses. Buses to other locations also easy to find. 3rd time here and would definitely recommend it (and have done so) to friends.

Sure, it’s a hostel- but still! Had a private double room which wasn’t cheap. Not properly vacuumed in the room when we checked in. Noise transferred through the walls. The bed didn’t have a top mattress so we could feel every spring in it and woke up when the other person moved because of the noise and the movement transferred. The verandah with a bbq etc was a proper let down as the pictures made us think it had beach view- but don’t be fooled like us, that verandah is from a restaurant with rooftop nearby, not part of the hostel. The hostels verandah was crammed with a bbq, hanging racks etc - we did not want to spend a single minute there. For this place all you pay for is location as it’s only a minute walk to the lovely beach of Coogee, the place itself not worth the money. Barely slept at all

A lot of cockroaches

Can’t beat the closeness to the beach; otherwise this hostel is unremarkable.

I booked a double bed which advertised having a private bathroom, but it didn’t and I had to use the shared bathroom facilities, which for the price I paid was not acceptable. The description ’free nearby parking’ was also misleading as it implies it’s parking offered by the hotel - it wasn’t- it was just street parking in the surrounding area, it shouldn’t be listed as a hotel feature. The room itself was fine, very basic, but tidy.

Great location and atmosphere. We only stayed for a night but glad we stayed. Off street parking available for those who are driving.

The reception closed (office closed and no one there!!!) from between 1pm to 3pm and there was no information when i booked it. We found it when we got in there at 1 15pm. I hope Expedia will update about it so then ppl will know in advance. Staff is nice but the room got small and noisy at all the times. If you are light sleeper, im not recommend here. But good location from beach just 1 minute walking.
