Review of Our Stay at Fairmont Le Château Frontenac – Golden King River View Room (24–25 June)
This was our first time staying at Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, and overall we had a lovely time, though there were a few areas that could be improved.
Firstly, upon arrival by car, we didn’t see any staff available to assist with valet parking. We had to unload our luggage ourselves and wait at the main entrance while my husband parked the car and returned. I waited about 10 minutes before a staff member eventually came to help with our bags. He was kind and friendly, which we appreciated.
Secondly, when we entered the hotel, no one directed us to the Golden Concierge check-in, so we went to the standard front desk. The receptionist there was very pleasant and helpful. He realised we were supposed to check in on the 14th floor but still assisted us with the check-in and gave us our room keys. He said we’d be contacted once the room was ready.
We went out to explore the Old Town and returned around 3:45pm, as we hadn’t received any update. We went straight to the 14th floor and spoke to another receptionist, who was absolutely wonderful. She confirmed our room was ready and kindly gave us a tour of the lounge and explained how everything worked. Her warmth and understanding really turned the experience around for us. She made a real difference, and we were very grateful.
The room itself, located on the 11th floor, was clean, comfortable, and the river view was truly stunning.

The hotel holds a special place in Canadian history, and it certainly has charm. However, I'm not convinced that simply staying here is worth the bragging rights—especially if you opt for one of the lower-priced rooms, which are extremely small unless you choose to upgrade.
During our visit, parts of the hotel were under restoration, and the main entrance lacked the visual appeal you might expect from such an iconic property.
I was also a bit let down by the upscale dining experience. A family with young children was seated near us late in the evening, which disrupted what we had hoped would be a quiet, special meal. It would be ideal to have a designated adults-only section for those celebrating special occasions.
As for the surrounding area, the local dining scene is starting to resemble other tourist-heavy destinations like Niagara Falls—with fewer traditional French restaurants and more standard offerings like pizza, sandwiches, and ice cream. The tourist shops, too, lean heavily toward mass-produced, made-in-China souvenirs rather than unique local goods.

C’était parfait ! Seulement 2 petits point négatif, la piscine qui ferme à 21h le weekend… 23h aurait été parfait et la grandeur de la chambre pour le prix nous avons trouvé ça petit. Ceci étant dit je le recommande très belle hôtel !! Merci !!

The arrival to hotel was extremely chaotic. No one in charge directing cars etc. we utilized the valet & the head bellman (dressed up in garb) was exceptionally rude. He must have had some big feelings that day. The other bellmen were amazing.
While we have always wanted to stay at said hotel - its a one & done.
