VR Rotorua Lake Resort

Beautiful experience with an excellent lake view. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for some time to relax and reset. Good service and great quality food. Very calm environment with many activities on site. Me and my partner enjoyed our stay here.

Fantastic service and very friendly and welcoming staff

The view & quiet

Property in desperate need of upgrading. Walls are paper thin we can hear whatever everyone else was doing. Random opening where the toilet was into the main bedroom so you could hear what everyone was doing on the toilet. Furniture dated and marked. carpet, kettle and chairs had paint splatters Had to ring for service at check-in and check out. Breakfast was okay, although the beverages was not really at hotel standard and was tepid. Overall, bedding clean and comfy, staff friendly hard to see how this is a 4 star resort.

Property was tired. Location & surroundings were beautiful. Didn’t have many staff around. Nobody to check us in. Asked to wait in the bar…. No staff & coffee machine broken. Asked to wait to be seated at breakfast but again no staff.

Gorgeous location on the shore of Lake Rotoiti. Perfect for catching the afternoon boat to the Manupirua Hot Pools. There's nothing wrong with hotel that wouldnt be solved with better and more meaningful cleaning.

Decent sized room with a comfortable king size bed, one easy chair, one office type swivel chair and a couple of dining chairs and a small table. Our second floor room looked out onto Lake Rotoiti - very nice view (Lake Rotorua is in the opposite direction and can't be seen from the hotel). Strange folding wooden shutters between the room and en suite bathroom (with separate shower cubicle) - would let in natural light I suppose? Fridge, desk, small wardrobe containing iron and board. Some of the fittings are a bit worn and tarnished, giving the room a well used feel - but it was clean and everything worked. Friendly staff. Parking on site. No lift - but the receptionist offered to help carry luggage. Good breakfast available: fruit, cereal, yoghurt cheese, cold meats, croissants juice, plus scrambled eggs, baked beans, mushrooms, hash browns and bacon (potato wedges one morning). Toast, butter and spreads. Only disappointment was the water in the flask for tea wasn't hot - we had tea in our room. At times the breakfast area had food dropped by guests on the chairs and carpet. We dined in the restaurant one evening - nice meal. The hotel is an easy 20-30 minute drive to the centre of Rotorua (you definitely need your own transport) but only 5 minutes from Okere and Tutela falls. We had a comfortable stay and the buffet breakfast was a treat.

A shame that a beautiful place has neglected cleanliness and maintenance with current management. Could be so much better.

Hôtel correct, propre et confortable. Le restaurant n’était pas disponible le soir de notre arrivée étant réquisitionné par des touristes chinois toujours aussi irrespectueux envers les autres clients, bruyants claquant les portes…Les hôteliers devraient instaurer des limites!!

The hotel needs a renovation, I think it was built in the 50s. Beautiful lake behind the hotel. Dinner was good.

Hotel is quite tired, staff friendly, phone in room was not working correctly. On checkout at 7.00am no one on Reception able to use computer to charge for Room service the night before. Rooms very well appointed and comfortable just showing their age, staff friendliness made up for a lot of the short comings.

Good for the value and price

The hotel is a good 15 - 20 mins drive from Rotorua, the building is in desperate need of repair, everything is literally falling apart, the staff is okay but overwhelmed by the quantity of tourist. Otherwise, location quite nice, right on the lake shore and the sunrises are great.

The property was old and badly needed updating. There could have been more crockery in the rooms ie plates. The breakfast was just ok. The room service meal was very good.

Das Resort ist mehr als nur in die Jahre gekommen. Vieles ist kaputt. Wenn gemalert wurde, dann scheinbar bei voller Einrichtung. Stühle, Bett, alles voller Farbe. Das ganze Hotel wird augenscheinlich sehr lieblos geführt. Die Sauberkeit lässt zu wünschen übrig, durch die Fenster kann man kaum durchschauen. Viel zu wenig Personal, das aber sehr nett.

View from the room was stunning, bath was a treat, linen was clean. Hotel is a big run down, could do with a thorough clean and a refresh.
