Mercure Edinburgh Haymarket

The room was clean and in excellent condition. It even had a small fridge which was convenient. It was very quiet and the location was within walking distance to Edinburgh city centre. However bus, train and tram were also on the doorstep.

The hotel was very convenient for the EICC, the room was comfortable and well fitted. (it might have felt a bit cramped for two). The reception desk was very helpful in booking taxis etc. However it was let down by poor WiFi, even in reception by the router. Also it was unhelpful to say the least to discover there was no food at all on the Monday night I arrived.

The room phone did not work, the WiFi was unstable, and I could not figure out the thermostat. They were kind enough to give me a space heater though. The staff was professional and hospitable and the room was clean and stylish. I would definitely return if I did not need WiFi.

A great place in a good setting.

Unfortunately, the hotel is not very well maintained when it comes to the leather in the lobby and the rooms. The positive factor is the helpfulness and kindness of the staff and the goodness of the breakfast.

Great location for Lothian Rd and Grassmarket

It is a good hotel. Good service. Good staff. Good cleaning. Nice neighborhood. The only downside is they don’t take cash but that seems to be the trend in the UK.

Heating did not work the whole stay even though it was freezing outside. After claiming they gave us a portable heating where of course you could not set up a temperature so then it was too cold or too hot in the room. I stayed 4 nights and they were never able to fix the room heating in top season like New Year's Eve. The worst was the staff that promised a refund of certain amount that they never did. Only 2 breakfasts were given as compensation even though I continued claiming after I checked out and was back in my city. There are no excuses for a hotel of this category and such elevated prices to work out like this. I could move to another hotel in the middle of the stay because I paid full amount in advance, so I would lose all in addition to paying a new hotel. Avoid this hotel as long as you can, as there are planty of options available.

Hotel was good. Some things to note. In a very quet neighbourhood, short walk to grassmarket and other tourist areas. Not as new as it looks in ghe photos tho and the wifi was terrible! Apparently a known issue and they have contacted their provider which didnt really help us much over our three nights as if was nsver fixed. The air-conditioning didnt work the entire time despite being reset 3 times and room was stuffy. Thankfully the window opened a bit so we slept with thst open. Overall it was a good hotel for ghe price we paid but would look at somewhere different next time which is more modern and closer to the center.

Room

Quick and easy checkin. Great atmosphere. Rooms are modern and comfortable. Firm beds. Easy walking distance to Old Town and Edinburgh castle.

Nice hôtel, well situated (nearby restaurants, super Markets and buses, not far from the center. Nice staff, nice rooms. The bed was a bit umcomfortabel and bad wifi connexion but I still recommend the hotel.

Good overall, Wi-Fi was poor on 4th floor and iron in my room was leaking

We hadn’t stayed before and hadn’t realised that it was quite a small hotel, but for a two night stay it was fine. The rooms are adequate though there isn’t much space at all to unpack, no drawers and 4 hangers. It was very clean however. We didn’t have breakfast, but the bar, reception and breakfast area are all in one and pretty small. Our main issue was the heating. Since I’ve read the other reviews it’s seems it is a known problem, however the staff acted surprised when on the first morning I complained that I had been cold all night as the air con didn’t seem to heat up but even when we tried to turn it off the fan still blew. They said they’d have maintenance look and put a heater in the room. When we walked in after being out all day the room was hot and stuffy from the fan heater (I’m not sure how safe that is either!) again the air con fan was noisy all night but no heat so we had to keep turning the heater on and off. On check out I mentioned that it hadn’t been ideal having a fan constantly blowing out cool air then haven’t to override it with a fan heater, it was noisy and disrupted our sleep all weekend. Again they seemed surprised, even though we’d already told them the day before and just said they get maintenance to look at it. For this reason I don’t think we’d stay again, unfortunately these things affect a stay and knowing it has been an ongoing issue and not dealt with, feels somewhat misleading.

Good Hotel, friendly staff

Totally delightful from start to finish. A great welcome at the front desk, as well as a really helpful member of staff who recalled my phone enquiry from the night before. The room itself was excellent. Not only was it tastefully furnished and decorated, but the bedding invited the best night's sleep I've had in ages. The bathroom was very clean and nicely finished. And best of all, room was really quiet and peaceful. Overall, a total luxury at a competitive and fair price point!
