DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Huntsville South

I booked this hotel because it was close to my son college and based on the reviews and the photos posted of the hotel. Let me say the photos should be updated. This is not what i expected of a Hilton brand hotel. This hotel needs a lot of attention and upgrades. The room itself had a lot of rust in it. The vent covers were falling off, paint was piling in places. My kids found someone nasty boxer briefs stuck in the pullout couch. The extra blanket in the closet was rough old and gross looking. The room across from us was missing thw peep hole so people could literally look through the door into the room. We found a huge dead tree roach in the hallway. One of the things that i was most disappointed in was no free continental breakfast. Some pros the bar lobby area was nice, location was good and safe, walnut warm cookies were good, and check in was quick and easy.

My secretary booked this stay for me and called the morning before to confirm what I needed to bring for check in, what time, ect. When i go to the hotel, even through the room had been paid for a week in advance, the staff wanted an additional $50 for "Incidentals" even though they could not tell me what the $50 was for. Since I didn't have the company credit card, I was not allowed to stay even though I had already paid for the room. I ended up driving on to my next destination and loosing the $117 I paid for the room. I will never book with expedia or this hotel again. Better to deal directly with the hotel. Buyer Beware, the price you pay up front is not the price when you get there.

The bathroom had black mold. The air conditioning sounded like a plane taking off about every 20 minutes. The entire structure was dated.

A quite and nice place to spend a weekend

When I got there I had to rush out to a family reunion but when I returned I realized I had hair in my bathroom there was a big red stain in the middle of the carpet floor hidden underneath the ottoman the pull-out couch had food under the mattress and the night clerk tried to put me into three other rooms and had the same problem and then they did not offer to make it right in any way after speaking with the manager in the morning and breakfast cost $17 per person the pool area had a lot of dead bugs floating around you would think someone would clean that randomly around the clock but I guess not I would never stay there again hate I spent my money at that place

The property looks nice and clean from the outside and lobby area but once to the guest rooms there is a noted difference. Staff was not available at check in. Once someone arrived to the front they were short with conversation and did not give any information about the property, location of rooms, elevators or ice/vending areas. Poor signage made it difficult to find where to go to find the elevators. Only one elevator was working again no signs to make guest aware. Once on the floor for our room signs were not easily seen to know which way to go to get to rooms. The room was moldy smelling, there were stains and rips in the carpet. The bathroom was not clean there was hair on the shower walls and sink area. None of the soaps, shampoos or lotions were filled. When the air conditioner was running it was so loud it made it difficult to sleep. Ice machines were not available on the 2nd floor but we were not notified of that or where we could find ice. When we went down to get extra bedding staff was gathered in the bar area watching basketball and not available for guest. Over all not a great experience.

The hotel and room/suite was very nice but the fact that I had to switch woods in the midst of my stay due to a plumbing/piping issue was inconvenient. Also, I wasn’t aware there was a voucher system for the daily breakfast that I prepaid for and was charged for the 1st day. I ended up not going down for the breakfast on day # 2 and 3 of my trip to avoid the issue. I should have called/followed up but I kept getting an endless loop when I called the hotel. I was busy while in town and didn’t have time to wait on the phone or get with the front desk. The hotel was quiet and convenient.
