The staff were generally helpful but it felt chronically understaffed, receptionists serving tables. No one manning the bar and having to find someone to serve us after 10 minutes. However, this trip was meant to be a real treat and we left feeling like we had wasted a lot of money on a really bad experience. The food is ridiculously overpriced for what it was and in our opinion not worth it. The whole building was uncomfortably hot. The noise level was unbearable late into the night, from staff exiting the kitchen area and fellow guests. The bar area was covered in dust, carpet heavily stained and the sofas smelt like wet dog. The trays the food and drink were served on were covered in food and drink debris. The spa was so tiny and dishevelled, when we entered there was 3 people already in there and that left no where for us to sit, there was a rusty bin, mould and just generally things were broken. The hotel looked like a really nice luxury experience and we felt like we had pushed the boat out to book this hotel for our first wedding anniversary. It was a great disappointment and we only stayed the second night because we had already paid it.

Value for money…. The rooms are not the cheapest, but they are worth the money. From start to finish the say was perfect. The staff were super friendly and went out of their way to welcome you. We wished we had stayed another night and will definitely come back. The food and selection for breakfast was great and they accommodated our miniature poodle throughout our stay with a special welcome basket on arrival. All in all a wonderful getaway, thank you.

Amazing all round. Big bedroom with great views, amazing food in the restaurant, kind and helpful staff, and the spa was incredible after a day of browsing the local towns and some walks around the lakes. Perfect central location too as a base for our trip, with easy access south to Ambleside and Windermere or north to Keswick and across towards buttermere. A luxurious stay that made our trip complete.

Bathrooms need regrouting and thorough cleaning. Also spa has broken tiles in the floor. The grounds around the back of Hotel need a good cleaning. Not a 4 star hotel. Also you have to pay for parking if you don’t book direct with hotel

Lovely hotel in fantastic location. Excellent spa facilities, room had everything you could need. Staff were really helpful and could not have done more. Highly recommend. We will be returning.

Perfect stay in a wonderful location. The hotel was welcoming and the staff excellent - nothing was too much trouble. Beautiful gardens to sit and enjoy, small but delightful spa, lovely restaurant - dinner and breakfast were delicious. Can’t fault anything. Will definitely go back. Highly rated proper 4* hotel

Staff were all helpful and super friendly. The room was clean and a good size. We had dinner on the restaurant one night and two breakfasts- all were delicious.

Great location. Excellent, peaceful escape. All the staff were outstanding. Restaurant quality very good. Only downside was that the rooms were showing their age and needed a freshen up. In spite of this, we’d stay again because all other popsicles were so strong.

The overall stay was excellent. Food lovely & staff friendly. Rooms etc were spotless. The only issue was no lift. It was a struggle for my father in law to get up 2 flights of stairs. However, this didn’t deflect from having an enjoyable stay. Thank you.

a very faint smell after dogs in my room. the spa had a few tiles that came off and one of the misty showers didn't work. however, the room-upgrade was grate and the food lovely.

The hotel is in a beautiful setting. Quiet and peaceful. We stayed in a room with a balcony with lovely views. The room was small and in need of an upgrade in my opinion. Older furniture. The bathroom whilst a good size with nice toiletries was also looking tired in parts. The reception staff were very helpful and friendly. We ate Sunday lunch in the restaurant. The restaurant is lovely. The food was excellent.Although not very very generous on portions of vegetables. The service was excellent during the lunch however a little disorganised at breakfast. Nice touch of complimentary gin and tonic in the room . However when we asked for ice and tonic for the room it never arrived. The spa facilities are in a lovely setting are small only 4 heated loungers so a little crowded. Best to go in quiet times. The outside seating is fab with outdoor heating. Breakfast was nice but had to ask for several items during our breakfast. We found all the staff to be very friendly a credit to the hotel. Just a few minutes walk into Grasmere centre.

Lovely Hotel, beautiful grounds / gardens and bonus of spa facilities. Every member of staff was warm, welcoming and helpful. Great breakfast choices.

First time to Grasmere and had a lovely time. The room was luxurious and welcoming, would have been happy to stay in the whole time! Random huge bottle of gin was definitely unusual. Restaurant was great, really couldn’t fault anything about the hotel or the experience.

We had a deluxe room with a patio. The room was large, but very dated and with stains and scuffs throughout. The patio was private (we weren't aware of that) so our bedroom opens up directly onto a shared patio which meant we couldnt have our curtains open to admire the view. The coffee machine was missing from our room as well. The spa was nice, but very small. It was overcrowded when we went with people queuing inside the spa for beds / steam room, and also queuing to access the spa. We had breakfast which was very nice and the restaurant is a nice setting. Grasmere itself is lovely and ideally located. Staff very kind and professional

Clean room. Needed a bell at the bar so that you didn’t have to go to reception to ask for someone to come & serve us.

Second visit to Rothay Gardens. Lovely get away. Restaurant is fantastic and the staff always helpful and accommodating.
