The view from our room was stunning and location is very convenient. We loved the japanese style room. We had the Kadan Suite with balcony (or so I thought). Based on the photos on the website, this is what we had. A bit confusing because we still had to have our Kaiseki meal in the restaurant. The website indicates only Annex Senshin and Meigetsu are served in the restaurant, but we were told ours was as well. Additionally, their facilities guide needs to be updated on their website. Club AI apparently does not exist anymore. The staff that greeted us upon arrival were friendly, but she only spoke and looked at my partner the entire time when explaining the facilities. Despite booking the room myself, I felt ignored and excluded. Even when asking a question, I was dismissed quickly. I found it odd. They also take quite some time to respond on expedia prior to arrival, but I am not sure if that is an app problem. The food was delicious. The server we had the first night was amazing. She explained each dish without looking at the menu and her service was consistent. She was very attentive. The other servers were just OK. They didn't explain the dishes as well and sometimes had to look at the menu. The inconsistencies were visible despite the food being delicious. Overall for the price, I would expect a higher level of service or at least a consistent one. For our next trip to Hakone, we will be trying another place.

An amazing place only surpassed by its amazing staff. We loved everything about Gora Kadan--from the friendly and organized communications ahead of the stay to the clean to the well-cared for room and the wonderful food. Special thanks to bringing creativity and flair to providing a vegetarian kaiseki. It's worth staying here at lease once.

Very lucky to have scored a reservation during our holiday stay in Japan. The hotel will organize ride from Gora Station to hotel. Though a short ride it is much appreciated with children and luggage. The private in room open air onsen is such a treat for families. Beautiful amenties - pool, gym and male/female onsens that swap gender in the middle of the night so if you stay longer than one night you can experience a different outdoor onsen view. The adults had a great in room massage. Kaseiki dinner and Japanese style breakfast was one of our best meals we had in Japan. Highly recommend and hope to return.

Our overall experience at Gora Kadan was wonderful and came very close to a perfect 5/5. The cleanliness of the facilities, thoughtfully curated amenities, stunning views, and the warmth and professionalism of the staff reflected a high level of care and intention. It was clear that great thought had gone into nearly every part of the experience. The only reason this fell short of a perfect score was the attention to detail during meal service. While the food itself was outstanding and among the best we had on our trip, both dinner and breakfast lacked sufficient explanation, with breakfast being noticeably worse. We had mentioned that this was our first time experiencing a traditional Japanese meal like this, so we had no prior knowledge going in. Despite this, little time was spent explaining what the dishes were, their significance, or how they were traditionally eaten. Many breakfast items were unfamiliar, leaving us guessing or searching online for clarity. This was disappointing given the care evident elsewhere at Gora Kadan. Learning later that our friends received detailed explanations from their servers made our experience feel subpar by comparison. Had it not been for the stark contrast in service we received compared to our friends, this wouldve been a flawless once in a life time experience. With more consistency with meal service, this exceptional place would easily reach perfection - unfortunately not the case for us.

Gora Kadan was the highlight of my trip to Japan. It is beautifully kept and the service, impeccable. None of the photos do this ryokan justice. The private bath was nothing short of breathtaking as there is stunning view of the mountains. I enjoyed the open air and the indoor baths in both areas- the male and female areas are swapped every day for cleaning and it is worth seeing both as they have different garden views. On top of this, the kaiseki meal was delish as was the breakfast the next morning. It was a bit pricey to stay here, but I would do it all again if I could, it was worth every cent.

Courteous staff, clean room and good atmosphere

Beautiful property and excellent service! The public onsens are really stunning in the fall.

The room assitant Kenji-san explained everything and made us feel very comfortable. The room was great and the private onsen was perfect for relaxing.
