The property itself could not have been better - easy to find and access after a long day's driving, warm and comfortable. The surrounds could not have been more disappointing. We knew from several previous days of disappointment that it was shoulder season on the West Coast, but could you please not pretend that local restaurants are open until 10pm when they laugh at anybody asking for dinner at 8pm. I mean we had learned by Monday that 10pm clearly was not true, but we foolishly assumed that turning up two hours earlier than the times given in your in-room info might work. It did not, and nothing about your vastly superior accommodation will induce me to ever again visit a town that clearly doesn't care about anybody other than coach tour groups.

Lovely place with a lot of amenities

Beautifully appointed studio with the friendliest staff. Location was perfect, parking easy, and the use of a real washing machine (meaning one that washes in more than 25 mns for clean clothes) was a bonus.

One of the best places we have ever stayed! Really well appointed with stylish finishing touches. Very clean and tidy. Excellent location within walking distance of Hokitika town centre. Would definitely recommend! Can’t wait to come back sometime.

The Hokitika Fire Station is a lovely place to stay. Very comfortable, spacious, clean, complete with all the amenities we needed and wanted. We'd happily stay there again and regret only staying for one night. It is in a good location with parking just behind the building. The beach is a short walk away as is the main street with various dining, drinking and shopping options. We think it is great that a historical building has been preserved in such a way with a strong tie to it's history and the local community.

We absolutely loved this property and room. It is beautifully decorated and complete. Everything we could possibly want in this wonderful town of Hokitika.

The decor was fun and innovative. We made good use of the laundry facilities- thank you. We found a great restaurant that we walked to on the beach - so convenient. Thank you for a great stay!

Communication regarding restaurants in the area was excellent, with menus included i the guest book. We did have a lot of trouble checking in. If you book through Expedia, the hotel management does not send you access codes directly and Expedia does not forward them to you. There are phone numbers at the door, but my U.S. phone could not reach the numbers. Fortunately, we were lucky enough to have a kind guest who used his phone to call and get the access codes, and lucky enough that someone answered the phone. Without access codes you can't get into the building and if you are able to get into the building based on a kind guest, you can't get into your suite. With that said, the suite was wonderful and we enjoyed the area. The owner/manager is obviously very thoughtful and considerate.

A great find in an amazing seaside town. This firehouse converted to lodging was everything we expected by the online info and more. We were fortunate to find an open room in the middle of summer and it was worth every penny! Definitely recommend and will stay again when in the area.

Amazing totally restored hotel with highest quality fit and finishes. Loved the lighting and fireman memorabilia in room. Town has a lot to do and close to beach walk and sunsets.

The property itself was lovely but communication not so good. We did not receive any notification before we arrived of the codes to get into the property I had to phone, not so easy with a uk mobile. On arrival the codes we were given allowed us to enter someone else’s room with all their belongings in situ. Our phones no longer allowed us to make a call so we had to enlist the help of another guest and the shop across the road to make contact with the property. In all fairness someone did then promptly come out to rectify the situation and allocate us another room. But not the start we wanted for our stay. The room was clean and met all of our needs. The property is in the centre of town so close to all shops and restaurants. Would highly recommend the Sandwich Shop on Revel Street.

The Hokitika Fire Station was really a super quirky hotel with just about all of the amenities a family could ask for. We stayed for a night in Jan 2025. The hotel is close to the beach, restaurants, and activities. The fire station has quite a bit of history that's neatly written in the welcome book (please sign the guest book). There is plenty of parking and super convenient free laundry onsite! The sheets and pillows were comfortable and everything was basically 'fresh'. Could not have asked for a better place while there.

Very cool converted fire station with old trucks outside. We reserved a 3 bedroom unit and the place was spotless. Very convenient to walk the town or go to the beach. Glow worm dell was walkable as well, but some of it on a busy street. The only thing I wish it had was a second bathroom as the one we stayed in can fit 6 people. The firefighter statue in the lobby startled us a couple of times when leaving our room at night :)

Best place to stay in Hokitika. Upscale, clean, beautiful, walkable to just about anything in town.
