This is really a pub with rooms. Suits us fine. Several places within 100 yards for breakfast. Lovely beers, friendly staff, welcoming to families, limited menu but v good cooking. Great room overlooking the square. Super beer garden. Recommend.

Lovely old building very conveniently situated for us. No television in the room, whilst not a problem for us, might prove an issue for others. Staff very helpful and friendly.

Clean, efficient and great location

Parking in the public carpark and the short walk to the hotel on a stormy night is something to consider.

It was good and convenient but there was no TV in the room and the included breakfast was limited, extra for latte, couldn’t have OJ and tea and cooked was half the size as the one if you purchased it. Also didn’t open for breakfast till 9.

One of the worst nights I‘ve ever stayed in a hotel. If it was advertised as a room above a pub in which live music would be played until 11pm at night - I wouldn’t have dreamt of booking this property. Noisy, tiny rooms, no tvs to even drown out the noise of the pub singer in the room below. Just awful and I feel very annoyed I paid for such a terrible nights sleep.

Very comfy clean bed, ideal location

We stayed in Crag which is at the front of the hotel . It was a large spacious room with a comfortable bed . We did not eat at the Royal Oak - you get breakfast across the square. I was v happy with our accommodation. It is worth pointing out that although the room is above the pub we had no noise from the bar area . 2 things that might be worth pointing out are a) there is no TV in the room and b) parking is only limited to 1-2 hours in the village but longer stay is available at the racecourse which is 2 mins walk for £10 per night ( the signs said it was more but the machine only charged us £10 ) or by the school 7 mins walk away which is free .

Ett besök med övernattning på The Royal Oak rekommenderas starkt. Rummet var toppen, det var rymligt med skön säng och ett jättefint badrum. Puben under hade mycket god mat och ett stort urval av den lokalt producerade och mycket goda ölen. Till den finns en stor och fin ölträdgård som inbjöd till att ta ett glas i en lugn och skön miljö. En promenad i den fina lilla byn med flera restauranger, caféer och butiker.

Great pub in the centre of Cartmel with lovely pub food and great entertainment

Staying in a room above a village pub is a unique experience. Our rooms at the Royal Oak were small but comfortable. The bathroom was modern and spacious. There is a steep flight of stairs to access the rooms so if you have mobility challenges that would be something to consider. It was pretty noisy in the evenings but quieted after 10:30-11:00 so we slept well. The location was great- right on the village square. I would recommend it for the experience
