We were asked to book a breakfast time slot on arrival, so we selected 8:30–9:00. However, when we went down that morning, all the doors were locked and there was no staff present. We tried every contact number provided, including the delivery and service numbers advertised, but received no answer or callback. This was extremely disappointing, particularly as we needed to leave promptly. In the end, we had no choice but to leave at 9:30 without breakfast and return the keys through the letterbox. We were also concerned to see ducks being kept in what appeared to be a pop-up laundry basket in the car park. It was overcrowded, and the animals could barely move. This raised serious welfare concerns. In addition, the upstairs corridors had a very unpleasant smell, and our room (Brook) felt run down. The bathroom floor and shower area were covered in small beard trimmings, which suggests it had not been cleaned properly. Although the staff we briefly encountered at check-in were pleasant, the overall experience was poor. I also attempted to make contact later regarding the breakfast issue and checkout, but again received no response. Based on this experience, I would not recommend staying here.

Lovely clean room . Kettle and hair drier . Body wash hair shampoo all in the room, great owners very welcoming and attentive . Lovely out door seating in the sun all day . Will stay again

Our room was spotless and very comfortable and all the staff very friendly and helpful. The bar area was welcoming and warm on a cold January evening and the beer well kept. The menu was limited and plain but again this was the low season with little trade

I had a lovely stay at the Exeter Inn! Michelle and Martin gave me the warmest welcome, and the whole place felt instantly inviting. I met up with friends from Bampton for dinner, and the Festive Christmas menu was excellent — beautifully cooked and full of flavour. I stayed in the Brook bedroom, which was immaculate and thoughtfully supplied with plenty of toiletries. A genuinely delightful visit and I’d happily return. Thank you !

The room looked fine on initial entry, but was in fact dirty, and the bathroom had excessive mould around the shower tray, there was only 1 young lady handling everything, we could see she was a little 'stressed', so asked some cleaning products for us to undertake our own cleaning, but she said they didn't have any. We asked to move rooms, to which she originally agreed, then said they were fully booked, which they absolutely were not. Someone from the kitchen shouted to her 'put them in ------ room, but seems that was as bad, as they then said they couldn't move us. We didn't stay, booked a different hotel and left.

Quiet relaxed place to stay staff were excellent dealing with some minor issues quickly and the food was fresh, with qauality ingredients and cooked well.

Lovely country pub, dog friendly, great food and friendly, welcoming staff. Highly recommend.

Check in was advertised at 3.00pm, arrived at 4.50pm but room was not available & hadn't been cleaned as the cleaner didn't turn up? Menu was reduced as the chef didn't turn up either and no toilet rolls in the bathroom. I gave my breakfast order the night before but it was not passed onto the cover chef in the morning, so in all not a great experience but...would I stay there again...definitely yes. Michelle and her team were amazing, they did everything possible to make my stay enjoyable and it was. The room was clean & spacious. The hotel is full of character & is attracting locals & passers by. Michelle and her partner had just recently taken over and need time to settle in and put their stamp on the business. I will certainly return and stay longer next time. Thank you Michelle and all

Breakfast isn’t served until 8.30am. Had arranged for an 8.15 slot, came down stairs to the restaurant To find it closed no one around. Waited until 8.30am still no one turned up. Really let the stay down. No good booking this for a business stay.

Great place to stay, staff very helpful

From the previous reviews and the website we were hoping for really things. The food was okay but very small portions. The female owner was quite rude on arrival, seemed flustered and wasn’t that friendly throughout the stay. It was advertised as newly refurbished- it needs another good lick of paint and a good scrub. Overall it was just disappointing when you can see it has a lot more potential.

Under new management with a lot to get around. Staff and manager very pleasant and welcoming to a very old, rather tired coaching inn. Good breakfast and evening meal.

hotel does not serve food after 4pm on a sunday, it had many items missing of the breakfast menu where you had to book a slot, the issue was they didnt start breakfast until 8am and I started work by then. THey didnt clean the room in between the two days i stayed. The table for working was very limited and not good enough for a business traveller and if you get a room on the front you have to deal with the noise from the drunken patrons arguing outside whilst smoking
