I hesitated to write this review because part of me wants to keep Waddington Flats a hidden gem, but it truly deserves to be recognized.
Tucked into the heart of old Victoria, Waddington Flats offers a genuinely special experience. The surrounding streets, especially around Waddington Alley, carry some of the oldest stories in Canada, and there is a distinct sense of history and energy you can feel the moment you step outside.
Having worked in Victoria’s tourism and hospitality industry for many years, I have experienced the city from every angle. Now that I no longer live on the island, I am more intentional about where I stay when I return, and this location could not be better. Bastion Square is just steps away, Market Square is nearby, and Chinatown, including Fan Tan Alley, is right around the corner. The Empress and the Parliament buildings are also an easy walk, even in less than ideal weather.
One of my favourite experiences was catching a water taxi from the Old Town dock over to Fisherman’s Wharf. It is an absolute must for any visit, with oysters and fish and chips that are some of the best the city has to offer.
The accommodations themselves were just as impressive. The suite was thoughtfully designed and incredibly comfortable. Travelling with a baby, we especially appreciated the low pull out bed, which worked perfectly for safe and easy sleeping. The upstairs bed was equally comfortable, and the rooftop patio access at the end of it was a standout feature.
