Old West Gate International Youth Hostel

We booked a single room for 2 nights. I am not satisfied with this hostel, because of the bad check in and check out experience. Check in took 45 minutes. First they couldn't find our booking. Then they asked for a payment, even our 2 nights stay was prepaid via app (!). We check out early, after 1st night on evening, and had a problem with returning deposit. They didn't understand that our room booked till the next day, and claimed that we check out late and have to pay for one more night. We had to quarrel with them about 20 minutes to get 100 CNY deposit back. After that we had to rush to the airport because of the time waited. I think they need to provide better check in and check out experience. They have to be ready to meet the customer, especially if booking already prepaid. My recommendation - choose this hostel if you are on very low budget. The location is great, in 7 minutes walk there's a shopping mall with restaurants / coffee shops. And metro & Yuyuan Garden in 15 minutes walk. The area around hostel is also very authentic. It was quite clean, and they changed towels after first night. But the room is dark and haven't enough light to do makeup. No hair dryer in the room, you need to borrow it from the 1st floor. Sound isolation isn't good, and you will hear people are talking outside at night. Also there is a big gap around air conditioner pipe coming out to the window, so mosquito and other insects can easily fly into the room.

The room feel so old, they need to renovate the room. And the bahtroom smells not good
