It was my first time back in Beijing after more than two decades, and Sofitel made it extremely comfortable. A free room upgrade to a higher floor, great room (with Lanvin amenities), friendly staff and very well stocked gym with techno gym equipment, I was set for a great stay. However a couple of things to note, 1. while it is within walking distance from the metro station, there wasn't much in the area. 2. Google maps doesn't work in China, so finding the hotel using Google maps can be slightly tricky because the hotel's signage is quite low key. 3. From a safety perspective, I left weights that didn't have a proper storage spot on the floor. However, a gym staff who came by to tidy up the gym moved it to any open spot on the rack, and told me to stack it. While I followed the ask, I wouldn't recommend it as it has a higher risk of falling and landing on someone's feet. Also, having weights randomly placed on the rack makes it look really messy.

立地は一見いいに見えますが、実はとても通いづらいです。よく渋滞するところですので、残念です。
勝手にカードをストップされたり、お願いした宅配便が漏れたりすることもありました。今まで香港と台湾のw ホテルで満喫できた人にとって、結構ショックを受けました。
でも、状況を説明したら、きちんと対応してくれたので、そこそこのレベルを感じました。
朝食が美味しかったですか、スタッフさんが地面に落ちたトングを平気に拾って戻したシーンは衝撃的でした…
とても好きなホテルのブランドですし、部屋も掃除も文句ないですが、
微妙な気持ちになりました…

I stayed the W hotel for business. The location is excellent. Just 5 min. away from Changguomen Station. Re: hotel staff, a receptionist seem to have no experience but nobody gave her support. Re: room and restaurant need to improve. On the way from elevator to room, at the corridor, women's perfume is sprayed strongly. The decorative room design is just "too much", does not look very sophisticated, but off course it's only my opinion. Shower in the bath in the middle of the room is ok, not easy to handle though. But in the shower booth, hot water comes out not enough temperature or amount. Re: the Kitchen table restaurant, food was terrible, a starter's source is bottled sweet and sour, steak meat taste like flip-flops(I've never eaten it but I guess). Wifi is fast and comfortable, but 99RMB per day. If you give your email address, it's free.

The hotel is nice and the staff are kind, always trying to help, but communication can be difficult since very few of them speak english. Compared to Shanghai, it was noticeable that much less english is spoken in the city.
Location is not the most convenien: going to the Forbidden City or joining a Great Wall tour always required taking a taxi.
One thing to note is that the hotel feels a bit less organized than others I’ve stayed in. For example, during our stay the city went into a sort of lockdown due to rehearsals for the Chinese military parade, but the hotel gave no prior notice and reception did not provide clear answers. We even had a guard on our very floor and none one told us.
Overall, friendly service but with room for improvement in organization and communication.

We were originally thought the hotel was not at part with the Sofitel brand, it was kinda small in scale and lobby facilities, however the staff and the manager of the front desk Mr. Li was very helpful to make our stay as smooth as possible, they even upgraded our room to make it at home. It was once a W hotel.
