I highly recommend this property to those who want an authentic experience. If you expect luxury, this is not the place for you. If you want to experience "ordinary" culture and typical Costa Rican lifestyle, i believe this is a great choice.

Everyone on the staff was super nice and friendly. The hotel is outdated and on a scale of 1 to 10 cleanliness is about a 5. They did have a good breakfast that was included. However is you get a room in the front of the hotel, you can expect it to be loud.

facilities was dark, old, dingy and not welcoming. Some of the staff was not friendly and there was no housekeeping services. No mention when checking in. I had to bring dirty towels for clean ones. Asked to clean out garbage cans, didn’t happen. Felt ignored. In addition, wifi (they say management is working on It & 12 days later still not working!) doesn’t work in rooms or hallways, thin old tatty towels & blankets, no air conditioning, leaky veranda, mouldy shower areas, no elevators, bugs/flies in bathroom. Totally unacceptable accommodations!

this hotel can be an inspired scene for a ghost movie, with amenities in the 1930s, shaking internet, and a wind blowing dark garden. the staffs were trying hard but overall lack of money to make things to work.

Staff was very accommodating and nice even though there was a language barrier.
The first room that they have had roaches in it. Staff changed my room.

Stayed at the hotel at the beginning and end of time in CR. Paid for breakfast twice and didn't get breakfast either time. First time it was because there was only two of us in the hotel so they decided to do breakfast 7-8 but didn't tell anyone. Second time I was told they couldn't cater for an early check out, not even a bread roll. The photos on the internet are much nicer than the place which is quite run down and bathrooms really need some work.
Area is great to walk in to town for the day time though and has plenty of restaurants around it for the evening. WiFi is ok.
Noise from closing gate and local train was annoying.

The room was very dirty upon arrival. There foot marks all over the bathroom floors. There are also dirty marks on the wall as well. The sink doesn’t drain properly, you have to keep lifting up the plug to drain the water. What I like about the place is the garden.

La verdad pagué un adicional de $20 por una mejor habitación, tv no funcionaba, fundas y almohadas deterioradas lavatorio sucio y taqueado, despues de hablar con el encargado nos cambiaron a otra habitación pero la limpieza parece que no es el fuerte de la propiedad

I stayed here for four nights & would sum up my stay as ‘barely adequate’. It is extremely loud, due to nearby bars, traffic, and flocks of noisy birds, making sleeping difficult. The mattress felt like sleeping on a sack of cement & the breakfast was basic. Finally, the staff was not friendly or particularly helpful. When I asked for an iron, the receptionist gave me one that was obviously broken. Stay elsewhere.

Rooms were only cleaned very superficially, if at all. Surfaces in the bathroom were obviously not wiped down from previous guest. The second room I had was overall nicer and acceptable from a cleanliness perspective. Ancient towels that urgently need replacing.
The place itself is beautiful, too bad that there isn't more effort put into it.
The staff are generally nice and I appreciated them feeding some local cats.
Breakfast is extremely limited and was just about enough for me as a woman, all my male co-travellers left hungry.

Older rooms comfortable but shower had nowhere to put soap or anything else. Otherwise good service, nice breakfast. Not too far from a nice mall and supermarket. Staff very nice and helpful.
