Our room was very comfortable and clean with everything we needed. Our greeting on arrival was friendly and helpful, settling us in quickly and efficiently. Ashbys was the perfect place for us to stay for our short time in Portsmouth. Ideally located close to some great places to eat and easily walkable to Gunwharf Quay.

Everything about the stay was amazing, from the massive bed. Which was really comfy and room really spacious. To the amazing owners and the added areas to relax. 5 Stars

Mubi, who showed me around was delightful and every interaction with the owners was warm and supportive. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. I would have preferred a more accessible socket for charging my phone but it was still doable and no real inconvenience.

Super welcome by hosts. Room very comfortable and very clean bathroom and shower couldn’t be better. Hotel amenities superb. Will certainly return.

Great place for vacation, excellent staff experience

I can’t tell if I really love this place or not. There were a lot of issues that I can’t overlook, even though I had a really lovely time and I really enjoyed the games room. They advertise that there was parking, but when I turned up, you have to pay £6 for a permit, which was cheeky. They also advertise two king beds but they were definitely double. It took me three attempts to figure out how to enter because there’s no reception and I just had to keep going to different locations ringing their ring doorbell. When someone did come out, it was a young girl wearing pyjamas, which was so unprofessional. It looked like I had to go into their personal house to check in, which made me feel uncomfortable and they had cats which I’m allergic to. So soon got a stuffy nose. you can hear everything in the room, there was black mould in the shower (the most dangerous kind of mould). There was no bin in the room so we just had to leave our rubbish on the side. It felt rude and untidy, but we didn’t have another choice. The light really easily slipped around the door frame and the electrics kept making a tapping sound, plus the fridge was noisy which kept waking me up throughout the night. Despite us having two radiators on full blast, we were cold. There was no shelf in the shower for you to hold your shower gel. And the electric hockey machine electrocuted me because the start button was broken so my finger actually went into the machine.

Lovely host

The host (Mimi) was very welcoming and showed us round, she clearly takes pride in her hotel and the facilities were great. The rooms are unique and very nice.

Beautiful

The hosts were lovely people but we just felt a bit disappointed as the reason we booked here was due to the games room and facilities for our 9 year old to enjoy after checking in which we couldn’t use due to a large booking so ended up having to sit in the pub down the road for hours . Would have been useful to of been told this before hand . We stayed in room 14 although large and nothing wrong with room it had a horrible damp / stale smell and wasnt pleasant, we checked out early the next morning due to this . I thought there would be a balloon in the room or something for my husband’s birthday ( pre arranged and I would of paid for it ) which was explained they wasn’t sure which room it was for and they would pop something in later but it didn’t happen . All things combined was just disappointed with the amount I paid unfortunately .

Staff was friendly, rooms were large and stocked with everything we could possibly need for a 1 night stay. Our host gave us a quick tour, and took time to provide information and answer questions. Truly enjoyed the comfort that was provided, the easy food options just down the road.
