Perfect accommodation!

Lovely hotel but not having air conditioning during the hot summer months is not great. Also for a high end hotel you would think they would have decent fans. Not a £30 thing from Argos.

Couldn’t fault our stay at the Borrowdale Gates. Absolutely a most memorable stay.

First impression of the hotel at check-in was exceptional- Stephen was very welcoming and friendly, and we knew it was going to be an incredible stay! In fact, encounters with the staff from bartender, restaurant and housekeeping were all friendly, engaging, and positive. The location was serene and relaxing with incredible 360-degree views of mountains and pastures! Inside, there were several cozy areas to relax and unwind. I would also recommend booking a dinner reservation for fine dining as the food was incredible (2AA Rosette) and the ambience as well, with large windows to enjoy the surroundings! Highly recommend this hotel! (Party of 5)

Second time staying here and we will definitely continue to visit. The location is beautifully quiet and only a 10 minute drive to Keswick town centre We come with our dog and the rooms are very dog friendly (must ring ahead to be allocated a dog room), however I wish there was more dog friendly allocated space in the hotel itself, as we personally won’t leave our dog unattended in a room to go for breakfast/a drink in the bar which is the only downside, so we ate elsewhere The staff are super friendly, The hotel is modern and the surrounding mountains are beautiful

Pretty remote so if you’re out driving, make sure you become familiar with the (fairly convenient) bus schedule, although it’s a half mile from the bus stop, or be prepared to pay a healthy taxi/Uber fare from Keswick. The grounds are lovely and rooms/common areas well-maintained. Breakfast doesn’t start until 0745, very inconvenient for an early start. Staff could be a little more helpful in pointing out bus schedule, local attractions, arranging cabs, etc. a nice experience overall.

Setting was lovely and staff attentive. They seemed a bit shorthanded at first blush but we were well attended throughout. Highly recommended.

The hotel staff were very friendly. The room was comfortable in a beautiful setting. There is easy access to footpaths in the area and several options for getting around. The restaurant food was outstanding except for one meal, they ran out of game hem and replaced it with chicken, and the chicken was dry. Otherwise it would be nice to have some pillow options, with both foam and feather available. Overall it was excellent and I highly recommend it. Hoping we can go there again in the future.

Our room, on the first floor, was excellent with lovely views. The food was of a high quality and the service was very good except on one of our three evenings when we were forgotten about and it took at least three complaints to get our meal started. On this occasion we were in the restaurant for about two hours and it took 45 minutes before we got our starter. This was a shame because otherwise everything was perfect.

Excellent hotel and staff

The overall cleanliness of the hotel & the service was wonderful with the exception of a grumpy woman behind the bar her service was awful, she didn’t even come to take my order for lunch I waited 40minutes I even had to go & ask & order it myself up at the bar, it wasn’t even busy. She wasn’t very helpful it was as though she didn’t like the job! Her approach to customers wasn’t great really to be honest. But I certainly give 5 stars to all the other staff in the restaurant & especially the lady at reception. Thank you to those staff that made up for the grumpy one with glasses.

Room was excellent and staff were great

Great food at both breakfast and evening meal, friendly staff, great views & recently decorated. However staff on the phone weren’t very helpful when I accidentally booked the wrong rate, and it took quite a while to amend despite ringing up immediately. We were also staying in room 2, which was lovely but a lot smaller than the photos and was a bit small for 2 adults. Coffee’s were also charged extra at breakfast which wasn’t made clear.

Very clean modern spacious room. Friendly helpful staff and lovely food. Hotel is in a great location for local walks. Will return

Gorgeous setting and so quiet!

Staff friendly and very professional. very clean, the grounds of the hotel was stunning.

The room was lovely, and the hotel’s setting is beautiful. Breakfast in the morning was excellent and a real highlight of our stay. However, our arrival experience was a little underwhelming. When we asked at reception about local walks, the lady on duty explained she wasn’t local and didn’t know of any nearby routes. (It’s surprising for a hotel in the Lake District not to be able to offer such advice.) Fortunately, a helpful member of the bar team stepped in and gave us some great suggestions, allowing us to plan our day. Later, after being delayed in Keswick due to a lack of available taxis, we returned to the hotel at 8.30 pm. Unfortunately, we were told that no food could be served at this time—not even a dessert—which was disappointing after a long day. Overall, the hotel itself is charming and well-presented, but it feels noticeably understaffed, and that really impacts the overall guest experience.

Lovely stay and hopefully they will continue to do so. Lovely setting.
