Highly recommended for a lovely b&b in a superb location with excellent rooms and a delicious breakfast!
We booked Foxghyll as we knew the Ambleside area and wanted somewhere close enough to stroll into town or the excellent nearby Badger Bar (both are 15-20 minutes in either direction) but somewhere also accessible to great walks from the doorstep and Foxghyll has it all.
Later spring is a lovely time to visit the Lakes with so many brightly coloured flowering plants and these are in abundance at Foxghyll, in the spectacular large outdoor grounds. The property is family owned by Cumbria locals Paul and Rachel and we found them to be a great hosts, with comfortable, spotlessly clean rooms and we enjoyed three very peaceful nights sleep and a delicious cooked breakfast every morning (including vegetarian menu options) in a lovely dining room. We ticked every box staying here, being able to do short or long day walks walk from the door to Loughrigg Fell, Rydal Water, Grasmere (coffin route can be picked up at Rydal Mount), Skelwith Bridge, Elterwater, Wansfell, and Troutbeck and if you get tired there are frequent local buses to whisk you back to Ambleside or drop you at Rydal, to easily stroll back to the property.
Excellent location, within walking distance of Ambleside, Rydal and Grasmere, also close to the main bus routes.
Wonderful hosts, really friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
Gorgeous property, huge rooms, large bathroom, comfy beds, good lighting, super fireplace, massive tv.
The nicest guest lounge with a wood burning stove which Paul kept regularly topped up, lots of books to read, games/puzzles to play, huge tv and sound system, drinks and snacks available to purchase.
Brilliant breakfasts, super quality, large portion sizes, everything you could want.
Can't wait to stay again!
