Very clean and comfortable

We had a great stay in this comfortable hotel. The bedrooms were large and comfortable. The garden was nice and guests were allowed access to it. Rita was especially helpful to us and enabled us to change rooms to a downstairs bedroom as my wife is disabled.

Beautiful place to stay and friendly staff

The Briers is a lovely Country House surrounded with beautiful views just outside of Newcastle. We stayed in room 8 which had a very comfortable bed, great shower and large TV. The continental breakfast was very good and the host Rita, was very friendly and extremely helpful. We will definitely be back! Thank you.

Staff/owner was a great host! She helped us plan our day and offered great hospitality!!! Great value and nice country side living!

The room was average but suitable. The carpet in the room however was extremely dirty with holes in it and should be better maintained. The hot water in the shower was temperamental going from cold to hot with the water shutting off every 10 seconds and then reactivating at scolding hot temperatures, needless to say it was difficult to take a comfortable shower.

Room is fine, basic self-serve continental breakfast. Not as nice as many B&Bs in this price range we have stayed in. I suspect that ownership has changed since many of the glowing reviews were written.

I had the most amazing stay here. Marty greeted me at the reception and showed my my room that had coffee/tea amenities; a big hot tub and TV, large clean bathroom, super comfortable bed and amazing views. They are located just outside of Newcastle; the manager will go as far as providing everyone a lift down to town in a bus if they want to, but the place has a large bar, lounge/snug, stunning grounds and loads of comfortable suntrap seats to relax in so no need to leave! Marty even brought me a chippy from town. Breakfast was also delicious. Couldn’t possibly recommend this place any more, can’t wait to go back.

Place was beautiful but breakfast was a let down. Would need a car to go anyway as it is out of the way.

Lovely spot, great staff, good location with lovely gardens. Room was nice and clean, the continental breakfast was nice.

Another great stay at the briers. Very reasonably priced and Colin us a great host. Will be back in a few months.

Being silly hack, travel can sometimes be very disappointing and dangerous for me. I was very impressed with a breakfast that was available. Lots of healthy gluten-free options that actually taste good fresh fruit, oats, boiled eggs, fresh juice. This location is very close to Tollymore Forest Park. I chose to walk the 700 m to the gate and along the way I passed a sheep farm. There were baby lambs all over the place and the owner invited me to go pet them. It was a wonderful experience and I would definitely go back there again and stay longer.

No, the room wasn't spotless. There was dust and a used tissue lying under the bed and the room needed a good clean overall. However, the bed linen was clean and the bed very comfortable. The house was cosy warm. Our room however, had several damp patches, mainly on the ceiling and a trickle of water running down the wall which need addressed. The property was advertised as having a hot tub (this was why I booked). When I asked about it, the host said "it wasn't available for use", therefore this is misleading! The website showed a full mini bar including various chocolate, however it was empty. When I asked about this, I was told the delivery had not arrived. It did not arrive during our stay. The host's attitude left a bit to be desired, mainly when he made reference to the amount of food which had been consumed by the guests on our first morning at breakfast! The food consumed was not overboard. I think he misinterpreted our staying to chat after breakfast was finished and thought we were late leaving due to the amount of food we had! The morning we checked out there was a female member of staff present at breakfast whom I assumed to be the host's mother, who was much more pleasant. These issues would not prevent us from returning and the fact that we got an early check-in was most welcome.
