As I was visiting Mach Picchu, I needed to leave my luggage at the guest house on the second floor La Escala. The owner of La Escala introduced me to the first floor of the same building, Cultural Guesthouse. Everything was OK except the smelling toilet. When I checked out, no staffs were in the house. I left s note and I went out with the room key, as I left my backpacks at the reception. When I came back at 2 pm, no staffs were in the house yet. I loved La Escala where the owner’s family always stays in the house and takes care of the guests from early morning till late at night. But here it was opposite. 二階のla Escala と同じ建物。オーナーが居てケアするla Escala は満足度100%、至れり尽くせりだったが、オーナーは不在で、スタッフがケアするCultural は死に体だ。ゲストも私一人だけで、ガラガラ状態。10時チェックアウトの時、なぜか朝食時にいたスタッフが不在。荷物を二時まで預けたかった。やむなくフロントにメッセージして、荷物を置いたまま、鍵を持って外出した。二時に戻るも、まだスタッフ不在。ゲストは私1人で、多分今夜も誰もチェックインしないのではないか? 二階のla escalaが連泊できずに、やむなく下に予約した。トイレが臭い。建物の改造や設備に、十分な投資をしていないため、満足度は低い。オーナー自らが常駐して、必死で経営する姿勢を見せるla Escalaは満室だが、同じ建物でも、設備不十分、オーナー不在。天と地を見る思いだ。お勧めできない。

Nice staff, very clean. The staff was very friendly and approachable. I got there late after the actual check in time but they still assisted me. The receptionist lady was very friendly and even help me with making phone calls for tours. I recommend this place, it’s close to downtown Cusco and it’s in a very nice area.

My husband and I only stayed here for one night because it is close to a hospital clinic; I had been hospitalized the night before due to a bacterial/parasite infection that I caught while treking to Machu Picchu. The room smelled beyond disgusting, the bathroom looked like you shouldn't walk barefoot in it, and the towels from the previous guests were still in our room when we checked in. The 'portable' heater was also very old-school and looked like a fire hazard. We had difficulties finding staff at the front desk when we needed help; sometimes the front desk was unoccupied for hours. The neighborhood also is not the safest. The only positive experience was that we discovered a decent restaurant located next door with pretty good and cheap food (I believe it is called Tabasco). Generally I don't stay in hostels while on vacation so my review is definitely biased; however, I'm pretty sure not every hostel is disgusting. This one is and I recommend avoiding it.

Nice stop before going to the inca trail. Really helpful and friendly staff but the breakfast was really poor.
