Room service is the worst. When we complained and had it addressed, not one word of apology. The reason is that they gave a note to the staff who came to the room and handled the complaint.

[Good points] The view from the window and terrace of the room is amazing, with the ocean, mountains, and the city of Hilo spreading out in a vast way. The front lobby has a wonderful atmosphere with the sea breeze blowing through and Hawaiian songs being played. When I take a nap on the beach chair in the courtyard, I can only hear the waves, wind, and birds. It feels like I'm in another dimension. [Bad points] ① I was shown to a very small room of about 17 m2 with only a shower. When I checked the reservation confirmation email, I found that I had reserved a 34 m2 room with lanai, ocean front, and bathtub, so when I asked the front desk to change it, they told me that it was fully booked. It was very small and inconvenient with only a shower. Three days before checking out, I searched for a vacant room on the Expedia website myself, told the front desk, and was able to change to a 34 m2 room with a bathtub. I looked at two rooms, but the bathtub faucet in both rooms had been removed and could not be used. Also, the hotel never contacted me about a room becoming available. I negotiated to have breakfast included for three days as an apology, but they told me to ask Expedia. I told them that it was the front desk's mistake and Expedia had nothing to do with it, but the staff just told me to ask Expedia. 2. On the first day, the bed sheets were made with wrinkled sheets that had been used by other guests. Last time, when I stayed in a twin room, only one of the beds was same

Good location from the airport and good place to stay for walking around. There are many chairs in the garden and you can enjoy ocean front view. Lobby bar and restaurant bar were good enough for tourists. Receptionists are not so friendly and we can not expect good services.

Stayed in Jr Suite for 7 nights. The view from guest room was amazing and we enjoyed our stay in Hilo. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. This historic hotel was nicely renovated and felt comfortable. The only weak point was the slow elevator.

飲み物が美味しくて，のんびりできました

清掃も綺麗にして頂き、飲み物のサービスも充実していました。 ホテルの回りの環境も最高です。 静かなバニアンツリーの道、海には溶岩の島、すぐ近くに庭園のような公園。 しばらく、のんびり滞在したくなります。

屋外プールが工事中で使えず残念でしたが、目の前の海や景色は素晴らしく良かったです フロントに日本人スタッフの方がいらして色々とサポートしてもらえて快適に過ごせました 周りにお店などは無いのでホテル内レストランがもう少し充実していたら良かったです

バスタブの栓が閉まらず湯が溜められなかった。 ベーシンの栓も完全に閉まらなかった。 バスルームのスライディングドアは上のレールが外れて閉めづらかった。 空調の調節が上手くいかなかった。 セーフティボックスが使えなかった。 欠点があったが、部屋からの景色は素晴らしかった。

フロントスタッフさんの対応も良く、快適に滞在できました。日本語対応可能なスタッフさんもいらっしゃって、英語が不安な方も安心かと思います。

レースのカーテンがないので、開けると外から丸見え、閉めると景色も外の光も入らずで、 カーテンを開けながら窓近くに行かないように、外から見えないように行動していました

浴室の排水環境が悪かった

Property was ok but in definite need of upgrades and care. The surrounding area is shady at best but could be beautiful if investments are made to buildings, elevators, and electrical systems. The electrical outlets in room didn’t work and were sooty. Overall, needs a redo.

Great location. Huge property. Free drinks were strong (thank you!!) Nice property. Shower water wouldn’t drain - that was gross showering in a tub full of dirty water. Could use some maintenance. Overall cool place - safe for family trip. Many laundry machines. I’d stay again.

My family and I had a good stay. Checking into our room took longer than what I was accustomed to(25 minutes) but much shorter than expected based on the reviews I read. The staff were friendly and professional. Our room was mostly updated and it was quite clean with an excellent view of the ocean. We even saw a sea turtle swimming from our balcony. However, the rusty and mildewed balcony needs work. It seems they’re working on doing that and once completed, it would make a dramatic difference. Overall, we had a good stay. The hotel could transform from good to excellent with proper improvements to the hallways, balconies and bathrooms(ours was a bit dated with poor lighting). Mahalo

Beautiful view from our oceanview room. Convenient to have a restaurant and bar on property. 2 drink coupons given per night stay. Entertainment was also nice in the evenings. Loved the sun beds for resting in the shade and the tiki torches lit up at night. Our room was clean and spacious. However it was super noisy. The air conditioner was LOUD! The toilet ran and ran for days, 24 hours a day. Also very loud. Reported both to the desk and no one came as far as we know. Our waiter Keane in the restaurant was superb! One of the female waitresses could use some retraining. If you need to park a car, it’s $25 a day with no option to self park. There is street parking, but it was crowded annd also the anrea outside the hotel seemed a little shady to leave a car overnight. Overall, i would stay here again as it looks like they are doing some updating. And it really was very convenient.

Staff was great. Needs a little work on the cleanliness, but they are renovating. Felt self parking wasn’t really an option cause it would be road parking and it’s a little far walk/.

Staff was friendly and helpful. Heads up that they only allow valet parking near to the hotel, $25/day and a resort fee of $39. Hotel a bit dated and our room smelled of fresh paint. Drove to the botanical gardens, beautiful! The trees, park and area close to the hotel is beautiful plus the ocean waves were relaxing to listen to. We had nice views from our room.

Loved the bath tub in the room, along with the view!!! Super clean hotel!!

Not up to Hilton standards

We recently returned to the Grand Naniloa Hotel in 2025 after a wonderful stay in 2018. While the property still has its charms, it’s clear it’s seen better days. Extensive renovations are underway, and management provided disclosures and acknowledgment letters in our room, but other reviews are correct: much of the art is missing, and the property needs more care. Highlights The hospitality was excellent. Front desk staff, valet, and restaurant teams were warm and professional. The on-site restaurant remains a standout, offering exceptional dining. The grounds are beautiful, with Wi-Fi extending to seating areas by the water. I loved working from the cabanas while spotting sea turtles in the shallows—a magical experience. Kayak rentals are available, though we didn’t use them this time. The gym is well-equipped, including a Peloton bike with foot cages. Practical Notes Be prepared for a $100/night deposit charged upfront. This covers the $39/night resort fee and $25/night valet parking you'll pay (street parking is possible but inconvenient). Local kids often enjoy the pool and dock areas, which created special moments for our son but might not suit everyone. Despite its current challenges, the hotel’s location and hospitality make it worth another visit—though we’ll wait until renovations are complete to fully enjoy its potential.
