Nice hotel, helpful staff, clean room but a bit cramped other than that all good

Great stay, the room was very clean and the hosts were very helpful. Would definitely stay again in the future.

We had a last minute booking and were pleased with our stay at The Slate. All the staff were really nice and helpful. Maybe a mini fridge next time would be nice but overall we we had a nice two night stay!

Modern, fresh and clean rooms. Well equipped with everything we needed. Staff were very welcoming, helpful and friendly. Bar was open late, staff sorted taxis etc for us. Good quality breakfast, nice selection. Was exactly what we needed.

A flying visit arriving late in the evening and having to leave promptly after our breakfast. Having advised of the circumstances we were told that breakfast would be served promptly at 8 which would have allowed us to eat breakfast in time but another guest advised at 8 the chef had just arrived so breakfast was available from 8 but by the time it had been cooked we didn't have enough time to eat it. The toast arrived so long after the cooked breakfast we had to decline it. The staff we encountered at booking in were great and accommodated request for additional items in the room. Room clean and comfortable with a fan provided. Ideal location for trip to Bangor but let down by breakfast issue.

Easy and friendly check in. Clean and tidy room. I had a single room and the sink in the bathroom was the size of a shoe box. I am not a breakfast person but I do like coffee. When I asked whether it was possible for me to get morning coffee for my travel mug I was told there was coffee in my room. I had hoped for and was willing to pay for a decent filter coffee as opposed to a sachet of Nescafé. Had burger and fries for evening meal "with salad". Burger was top quality, some fries and a single lettuce leaf for £18. Bit pricey

The hotel is lovely, the rooms are good, that is unless you have the misfortune to stay in room 8; please don’t. Their site mentions in the ‘directions’ page that it is “very close to the train line”. What it fails to tell you is that this is the main Bangor to Liverpool train line; trains run until midnight and start running again at 5:00am. They run every 20 minutes, and the line is less than 3m from the windows of room 8. At 9:30pm, I went down to Reception to ask when the trains stopped running. They didn’t know, but did offer me their last available room, just as the people who had booked it arrived to check in. I looked at that room, which was incredibly hot, but the bathroom was further to walk to - I have a mobility impairment and use a scooter most of the time, and am unsteady walking. I didn’t want to risk the extra paces, and also felt bad about giving another couple the very noisy room, so said we’d stay where we were. I didn’t realise how much I’d woken until I checked my watch - I’d woken up every time a train passed our window, from 5:00am - trains going in either direction, a few minutes apart. I told the staff when we came down for breakfast that I was exhausted, and had had a dreadful night’s sleep. Pointless. Breakfast was good, but when we came back for lunch with a group of friends, they failed to bring my OH his main course, so he just had a starter and dessert. Also, the ‘accessible’ loo is down 1 steep step, then up 3! Won’t stay there again.

Enjoyed the stay. Staff helpful, food was filling and tasty. Only issue that needs to be understood before arrival, is the step stairs to the bedrooms. But didn’t detract from a nice experience.

Only let down was the pillows need more filling

Everything was fab… From reception staff to breakfast staff. Room was really comfortable with a great en-suite. Pre-ordering breakfast was a bonus.

Everything about our stay was excellent. We can't wait to come back for another relaxing weekend trip and delicious Sunday Roast. Thank you so much for having us!

Good amount of free parking, the room and bathroom were a decent size as well as clean, comfy and well equipped. The shower was nice and powerful. The pub/restaurant itself was decent with nice staff and food. The only point to note is to check times and book for food if needed as there is nothing really around this hotel and Sunday closes early.

Be careful if booking on Expedia! It clearly states a double room can sleep 3, when actually it’s just 2! I booked thinking there must be a pull out bed but unfortunately there isn’t. Luckily there were only 2 of us but we did want separate beds. Other than that, one of the most clean and well presented rooms I’ve seen. Very friendly staff.

The hotel is decorated really beautifully, the rooms were clean, the beds were really comfy, the breakfast was very tasty and the location is great (right by Garth pier and a short drive to Anglesey or Llandudno). We had a wonderful stay and would definitely visit again.
