This is a beautiful old building in the very centre of Buxton, a historical spa town that pleasantly surprised me. While the hotel reception and hallways could definitely use some new carpet and renovation, the staff was very friendly, the buffet breakfast was very good, the bedrooms were large, and two out of the three bedrooms that we booked were freshly renovated. The two renovated bedrooms were on the first floor, whereas we stayed on the second floor. While the 2nd floor bedroom was older and ready for an update, it was very large, clean, and comfortable and I have to say that the bed was extremely comfortable. Overall, for the cost of this hotel with a full English breakfast buffet included, it was definitely worth the money. I would certainly stay there again, but I would ask for a bedroom on the first floor.

This wasn’t the old champneys quality I was used to. There was no one major problem, just a lot of mediocre. - On check in at 5pm, no one at reception or even a clear sign, no bell. Waited quite a while for someone to show up. - At breakfast I stood by the sign saying wait here to be seated. Initially no one there, then a waiter arrived at the other end of the dining room, just stared at me briefly, said “Breakfast?” Quietly across the whole length of the restaurant, I replied yes. He stood his ground at the opposite end so I walked across to him. He then said “You can sit there” and indicated a table that I’d walked past. All while he didn’t move. - I was an hour prior to breakfast ending, but they started removing table cloths leaving just bare wooden table next to me. - Room was clean but very tired, as was the bathroom. in desperate need of some renovation. Corridors were musty.

The welcome at reception was friendly and helpful. Our room was a decent size and dog friendly. Hotel is like a rabbit warren but well sign posted. Comfortable bed and efficient shower, decor was a bit tired and the lift was an old style metal gate which relied on other customers closing the gate after use so others could use it. Breakfast was served in a light and roomy restaurant, however as we had our dog with us we had to sit in the bar ( this was being repaired with scaffolding and noisy by us so disappointing experience)

The bedroom was spacious and clean. The bathroom was spotless. The tea and coffee provided were great quality. The beds were comfortable but a bit creaky. The floor was uneven and creaky so a bit noisy when moving around. The common areas in the hotel are shabby, although it's an old building it could do with some updating. Our reservation included free parking yet we were charged for a parking permit.

This is a very old hotel with all the charms that brings so don’t expect a sparkling new hotel but we loved for those idiosyncrasies which is the part of the hotel.

Floors not very clean in rooms. Some glasses in breakfast room not clean. Reception staff very helpful.

Nice hotel with friendly staff. The decor/carpets were quite worn. Good location, very central.

Room was ok and provided a comfortable sleep, bathroom is somewhat dated a needs a refit. No air con so on a night when temps were above 30 in the day it was a restless sleep. Breakfast was very disappointing, hot food was overcooked and not good quality produce. Staff seemed disinterested in making the the environment feel welcoming. Also be aware that with no parking available you have to purchase a permit for £6 to park on the road.

a really nice hotel with lots of history, our room was clean, the staff were really friendly and the breakfast was great, close to the centre, the theatre and the parks so excellent location. Only downside was the hotel lists free parking - yes there is as long as you are parked away from the hotel but only £6 for a permit for the day to park outside the hotel - perhaps this needs mentioning?

The hotel is in a prime position for visiting Buxton or touring the area. We were able to check in a little earlier and quickly sorted the 24hr pass for parking right outside the hotel. It felt very secure. The room and bathroom were very clean and the bathroom had a powerful hot shower and lovely fluffy towels. The room is a little tired and could do with a quick makeover. However it wouldn’t put me off staying again! The breakfast was delicious and the buffet was plentiful. The staff member in the breakfast room was very friendly and made us feel welcome.

The hotel is old and run down . The girl on the desk did her utmost best to change out room as the previous room offered had lots of damp and dust. She was so friendly and accommodating and did everything to make our stay comfortable. I think she is from Newcastle? What a great girl- thanks so much! The breakfast was very nice and nice staff there too.

We had an excellent stay, for an old hotel it was very well looked after. Staff were super friendly and the breakfast was good. Excellent position in the town. Will stay again.

What a disappointment. The building is in dire need of refurbishment. The Geordie receptionist was extremely nice but is overworked. The bar kind of sums up the place, stained broken seats and carpet. Our room had a huge crack in plaster, huge hole in landing ceilings, cracked window glass and rotten windows. What a shame but too expensive for what you get.

The hotel was very rundown. The room was dusty, curtains grubby & didn't close properly. Loose toilet seat & the cold water came out warm. Kettle & tray were very dusty with cups & glasses put on the tray top down. No hand towels. Breakfast, both selection & quality, very poor with only one staff member on duty to deal with a full breakfast room.

Clean room but faded grandeur and old stained furniture in the bedroom . No complimentary water and only 2 tea bags and no coffee. The pillows were very hard or lumpy tho the 4 poster bed was pretty comfy. Dog suitable room but no water bowl for the dog. Greeting from reception fine but no dinner available - had to go next door to sister hotel which is Champneys owned - their restaurant was full so went to Darwin's Bar which served food too ( part f the sister hotel ) We ordered linguine and it took 1hr and 20 mins to arrive! The bar staff and head waiter Alistair were very apologetic and gave our food and drinks free as an apology so a hungry but cheap night ! Apparently the chefs were going to be thrashed!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Lee on reception and Ruth in the restaurant were very helpful and outstanding. The evening meal was exceptional. The four poster bed was very comfortable the shower was very good as well . We would have no reservations about staying there again.

The Old Hall hotel is a lovely old building, with all the charm you would expect. On arrival the reception staff were fantastic and helped us with parking arrangements. The room was lovely overlooking the Opera House. It was very hot whilst we were there but the room remained cool. The room facilities were good. I cant review the breakfast as the gas wasnt working in the hotel, and breakfast was served in the sister hotel next door.

Lovely location and quiet. Lots of places to eat nearby. Close to high street. Lots of history within the hotel and surrounding area.
