The hotel itself is very good – the staff is friendly, the rooms are comfortable, and the rooftop bar is a real highlight. However, the location is a major issue. The hotel is situated right across from the Civic Center in an area heavily affected by homelessness and visible drug use, which significantly impacted our experience.
While the hotel has security at the entrance, stepping outside means encountering many individuals openly using drugs or in visible distress. Sadly, this made us feel unsafe, especially during the evenings. We ended up wanting to spend as little time outside as possible and left with a very negative impression of San Francisco as a whole.
This is not a reflection on the hotel staff or service – both were excellent. But I would strongly recommend choosing a hotel in a different neighborhood if you want to truly enjoy your visit to San Francisco.
