Our experience was far from satisfactory at Rowton Hall and Spa. The service was very poor, on our first morning for breakfast we were pointed to a table and told ,"Sit there". The reception staff seemed to be the only team who really cared and tried to please the customers. The wall papers were poorly hung and peeling off. The whole building was just in need of some TLC. How it has obtained 4 stars is beyond me. The food in the restaurant was miniscule. It would do at a push for one night stays. Unfortunately we were there for ten and were glad when we left.

One night stay following a day at Chester Zoo. Relaxing to have a swim/sauna after walking round for several hours. Good bar food -enjoyed my steak ciabatta which arrived speedily despite a school prom being held in another room at the time, staff remained pleasant and efficient throughout. Breakfast was excellent, nice continental and light breakfast choices and provided in a light airy room. The gardens are always beautiful to stroll round (this was not my first stay) ,particuarly breathtaking at this time of year when in full bloom..

Amazing staff, great facilities, reasonable cost only let down with a few of the areas showing a little age that would be easily rectified ie blown bath panel trim, grout needed touching in. Good location too

• I checked in and the room wasn’t ready. • There was a birthday that took up most of the hotel, they were loud in the garden outside my room. I called reception at 22:30 to ask if they could manage it at all. They said it was finishing soon. It finished finally two hours later at around 0:30. • checking out they tried to charge me for the room for a second time. They also added two breakfasts to my bill that I hadn’t had and disputed this with me when I tried to get them taken off the bill.

Lovely stay , staff friendly and very helpful

Booked for a romantic stay to celebrate our wedding anniversary. This should be a 4* hotel at best i would stay at best 2*. This is due to the very poor condition of the room (room 109). I paid £200 for a Master Suite for 1 night stay. While the room looked nice at a 1st glance there were some major issues, Damp on the walls, Mould in the bathroom around the shower, Damaged shower screen and shower, Mould above the window in the bedroom, Broken window openings, Cracked window, Stained carpets, Several mirror units which have been damaged and either taped over or chipped, Bed this has been repaired in 2 different areas (opposite corners) and have not been repaired correctly meaning the bed had a diagonal twist in it YOU DONT EXPECT THIS FROM A 4* HOTEL. Before I arrived i was asked if I wanted to upgrade my room and name my price for the upgrade. The following morning at checkout I went to settle my account and also asked when is the room due to be refurbished and the receptionist was aware of most of the problems What concerns me is they knew about the problems and still put me in there. The breakfast is extremely over priced and you have to ask for things such as butter for the toast, where are the pastries, additional apple juice as it was empty. I waited in bar area for an hour wanting a coffee while my mife was having a massage (something she did enjoy) and when she returned i had to go to the reception to ask is anyone serving drinks, another 30mins

Spa and bar were beautiful, However the bedroom was awful, carpet stained, paint flaking away in bathroom, smell of drains, curtain broke

Hotel was very old and tired needs a re decoration .The room was a superior room which had cobwebs on the inside of the windows and a leaking drainpipe outside .Because it was raining it was like a runnng tap all night bouncing off the window ledge .Then the food I ordered was cod @ £23 when it come it literally was a piece of cod in a bowl nothing else .Breakfast was paid for as part of the stay but if you want a full English it is an extra £5 never have I seen this before overall poor experience and will not stay again .

Characterful hotel with lovely spa & gym facilities. The hotel is a bit dated and in need of some referbishments. Our original assigned room was not made up when we got up to it and had to go back to reception. This seemed like a complete shock to the person on reception but the dirty linens were still on the floor, the un-made duvet and pillows were thrown on the bed and there was rubbish and used items from the tea set about the room. After the receptionist made a few quick phone calls we were assigned a new room. The new room was large with a huge bathroom including a shower and separate bathtub. There were signs of wear about the room, marks on the walls, etc.... but we had a lovely stay and it was comfortable.

Very comfortable rooms and quiet, ideal for our short visit to relatives in adjoining Waverton.

Plenty of parking. Good experience would recommend to friends and family. Not to over priced.

Went for 2 nights, room was very good, very comfortable bed, nice view from my room. Spa,was lovely, just what i expected and all in all a very pleasent stay

It’s in a gorgeous hamlet out of town. The park and ride is handy but if you want to use public transport it’s not so handy. Receptionist says it was a 10 minute walk to the park and ride where you can hop on a cheap bus into Chester, but it’s a much longer trek than that, even for fast walkers like us. Bed is hard and uncomfortable. It’s an old place so the plumbing is noisy. Room overlooks a derelict space, which is a shame.

We stayed for a romantic break away, sadly the hotel is undergoing renovation work, and the room we were given was very outdated and if we'd known ahead we wouldn't have booked. We found the building quite cold, we did however go in Feb so to be expected. The pool was ok, again quite cold, We reported all of this to the hotel, and in fairness they didn't give us a discount, The hotel will be great when all its rooms look like the pictures.

It was nice don't get me wrong but it did appear to be a bit run down aesthetically. Stains on carpets and walls and I think the place just needs a bit of TLC to be honest. I don't think it would win 4 in a bed if you get me haha the room I did notice quite a few bits that could of been cleaned a bit better and the tv didn't connect to the internet properly so we couldn't watch things without hotspotting my phone to it which was a tad annoying. but overall we enjoyed it and the bed was super comfy!

I’m not happy at all with my stay staff we’re very arrogant not approachable at all. I booked a dog friendly room and made sure staff knew this before arrival when I got to my room there were no dog bowls for water or food for my dog. I had to go to reception to ask for a menu as there was none in the room staff sort of brushed me off handed me a menu and ended the conversation. There was no prices on the menu and only set food on there no other options at all! Room was very dirty carpet stains chipped paint everywhere. When arriving I was told my room was not ready yet I then waited a further 20 minutes and went back to reception and room still was not ready! There was lots of rubbish under the bed HEATING TURNED OFF AND GIVEN A BLOW HEATER! I was not happy at all with my stay and am hoping to get a refund as I paid nearly £200 for ONE NIGHT to be looked at asif I was some sort of 3rd class!
