Fabulous beach front hotel. Good parking. Friendly and efficient staff. Room 23 on second floor at end of corridor (cosy but not big enough for more than 2 fit adults). I would recommend going through South Sands hotel to get the room you want. Breakfast was great and food at the hotel second to none (didn’t pay the optional 12.5 % service charge). Housekeeping provided a mattress topper the second day as the mattress was a bit too firm for us. Also gave us decaffeinated coffee and tea for the room. Good bar. Great outside seating overlooking the beach. Dog friendly. Can highly recommend.

Dinner disappointing, restaurant and bar cold in the evening. No bar staff so had to find restaurant staff for service. Don’t appreciate the automatic service charge Breakfast very good but too many dogs around the tables. Views beautiful although our small bedroom had no view. Good to have a bath as well as a shower

Lovely hotel set on South Sands beach. Room nice - we had one looking out over road and car park - seaview ones more expensive. Walls are thin and you hear the plumbing system in morning when others are using their bathrooms. Breakfast is a delight, overlooking the sea and choice is excellent. You can take the boat from the beach to Salcombe town fir under a fiver. We did it one-way and walked back. Lovely coastal walk just over a mile so not too far. Road access to the hotel is quite challenging as they are very narrow and steep.

Delicious choice of breakfast. It was not clear on the booking that dogs were not welcome in all rooms therefore we had to pay extra for a deep clean. Not the end of the world but annoying start to our stay

This is our third visit we absolutely love it here. Peaceful and relaxing, delicious food and atmosphere. Friendly helpful staff, nothing is too much trouble. Home from home for us. And your dogs are welcome here too.

We had a most enjoyable first stay at South Sands having had to change our plans at short notice due to an injury which meant that my husband was unable to fly. As we arrived to check-in Jonathan the food and beverages manager gave us the warmest of welcomes, he presides over an excellent team. The menu was extensive and varied using the delicious fresh local fish and seafood to its full advantage, the lobster bisque amongst other dishes is to be highly recommended. The beach view room was well appointed, fresh milk to make hot beverages along with local biscuits and complimentary water was a lovely touch. We were a little surprised when we requested a second cappuccino at breakfast to be told that this incurs an extra charge after discussion with the general manager it was explained this is during the summer season. Having never encountered such a policy in many other hotels both in the UK and overseas we felt it was perhaps a short sighted policy from the point of view of guest satisfaction when so much else at the hotel is to be commended including the very friendly staff.

All the staff were so friendly and helpful, the room was great, I didn't fully understand the heating and ventilation but that was down to me. the beach view from the dining room was excellent and the local walks in and around South Sands were great. All the meals we had were 1st class especially breakfast We Walked to Salcombe a couple of times and although its a little hilly the views made up for it. We only had a three day stay but the time passed in the blink of an eye. This was a really great stay for myself and my wife and we will return.
