Getting your plug adapter right before a Bali trip is one of those small preparations that makes a surprisingly large difference. Arrive without the right adapter and you could find yourself unable to charge your phone, camera, or laptop from the moment you reach your hotel. Here is a complete guide to Bali's power system, what type of plugs are used, and exactly what you need to bring depending on where you are travelling from.

Book your flights to Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar and start your Bali trip fully prepared:

What Type of Power Plugs Are Used in Bali?

Bali, like the rest of Indonesia, uses two types of power plugs:

Type C: Two round pins in a straight configuration, the standard European plug found throughout continental Europe and much of Asia. This is the most common plug type in Bali.
Type F: Similar to Type C but with two additional earthing clips on the side of the plug. Also known as the Schuko plug, it is used throughout Germany, Austria, and parts of Southeast Asia.

The power supply in Bali operates at 220-240 volts AC at 50 Hz. This is the same voltage as Malaysia, Singapore, and most of Europe, which means devices from these countries will work in Bali without a voltage converter — only a physical plug adapter may be needed.

What Adapter Do Malaysians Need in Bali?

Malaysia uses Type G plugs — the three-rectangular-pin British-style socket found throughout Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong. Balinese sockets are Type C and Type F. This means Malaysian travellers will need a Type G to Type C or Type F adapter to use their devices in Bali.

The good news: at 240V/50Hz, Malaysian devices are fully compatible with Bali's power supply. No voltage converter is needed — just the physical adapter. Most USB chargers and laptop power supplies are also dual-voltage (100-240V) and will work in Bali directly with the right adapter.

Find the best hotels in Bali — most 4-star and 5-star hotels provide complimentary plug adapters at the front desk:

Is Bali's Plug the Same as ASEAN Countries?

Not uniformly. While many ASEAN countries use Type C plugs (Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia), and some use Type A (Japan, some Philippines outlets), Malaysia and Singapore use Type G. Bali's Type C/F sockets are compatible with plugs from most of continental Europe and much of mainland ASEAN, but not with Malaysian or British-style three-pin plugs without an adapter.

Where to Buy a Plug Adapter for Bali

The best advice is to purchase your adapter before travelling rather than hoping to find one in Bali. In Malaysia, universal travel adapters are widely available at electronics shops, department stores, and airport retailers. Look for a universal adapter that covers Type C and Type F sockets — these will also serve you across Europe and much of Asia on future trips.

If you forget to bring one, adapters are available in Bali at electronics stores, department stores, and some minimarkets. Hotel front desks at major properties typically have adapters available on loan for guests. Prices in Bali for basic adapters are reasonable, but quality varies significantly — invest in a reputable brand with surge protection rather than the cheapest option available.

Practical Tips for Using Electronics in Bali

Check all your devices before travelling — dual-voltage devices (labelled 100-240V) need only a plug adapter. Single-voltage devices (labelled 110-120V only) need a voltage converter in addition.
Invest in a quality universal travel adapter with surge protection, particularly for protecting expensive camera batteries and laptops.
Label your chargers and cables clearly, especially if travelling with a group, as they are easy to mix up.
USB ports are available at most airports, cafes, and hotel lobbies in Bali and can charge phones and tablets without an adapter at all.
A portable power bank charged at your hotel is a useful backup for full-day sightseeing when you cannot return to charge.
