We stayed at Nazuna Kyoto Tsubaki Street during our honeymoon, after having experienced Nazuna Hakone, and it was even more special. The hotel is simply stunning, located on a charming street that feels like stepping into old Kyoto. With only 16 rooms, it offers a peaceful, exclusive atmosphere — perfect for unwinding after a day exploring the city. Our room had two floors and a private onsen, which was the ultimate way to relax at the end of each day. But what truly touched our hearts was the hospitality. Since we had already stayed at Nazuna Hakone, the Kyoto team knew exactly what we liked — and they went above and beyond. We were constantly surprised with thoughtful touches: handwritten letters in our native language (Portuguese), printed photos of us, and little treats like our favorite tuna sashimi, cheese, and snacks waiting for us in the room. One morning we woke up late and asked for breakfast in the room — and they carefully set it up for us at our table. The breakfast itself was amazing. We chose the Western-style meal, which was delicious, but they also offer a traditional Japanese option. The hotel’s architecture is breathtaking, the atmosphere is calm and cozy, and the attention to detail is remarkable. But what stood out the most was the service — warm, respectful, and truly heartfelt. We felt at home, deeply cared for, and genuinely special. It was one of the best experiences of our lives and made our honeymoon absolutely perfect.

This was an excellent stay that we would love to return to. The property was gorgeous, the staff were very attentive, and the room was a perfect place to return to after a long day of adventure. We try to stick to Japan's world class public transit but the distance from the nearest stations did necessitate a few taxi trips for us. The accommodation was two stories, which we enjoyed, but beware of steep steps and lots of elevation changes in your stay. In two nights we used the private bath three times. Temperature control of the water made it wonderful even in summer, though the bath might not fit two people comfortably if you are both tall. My husband is 6'3" (190cm) and had some trouble there as well as with a few low areas (mainly going down the stairs). The staff make every effort for you to enjoy your stay, when we arrived they showed us around the property, helped us understand how to use the amenities, gave us a personalized gift, had complimentary drinks in the fridge (some with alcohol!), and helped us make a dinner reservation with the onsite kitchen. If you are considering dinner with this ryokan, we do have some warnings. Before hand we were sold on a multi-course wagyu dinner. The dinner for two cost us around 150 USD before drinks and we were not prepared to be served beef tongue, tail soup, and raw meat. I'm sure many would enjoy the food but it was quite difficult for us. Ask about the menu beforehand and make sure it is something you would like to experience.

Cleanliness of the common area incl lounge & bathroom can be improved. The restaurant both breakfast and dinner we saw tables left untidy… gave an impression the hotel is under staff.

This was a wonderful splurge for the family. Top notch service through out. The rooms were beautiful and lovely. I almost wish we had more time to just hang out in the rooms to enjoy it more!

The hotel is awesome not close to anything in particular but walking distance to a train station, its a great place to stay and it looks and feels awesome, loved it

I am very satisfied with our stay here. The service was excellent and the staff were all very helpful and friendly. They even brought our bags to our room and had them ready for us when we entered our room. The room and the facilities were very clean. I would highly recommend it and I hope to be back again soon!

Staff were all really nice and helpful. Room was amazing, really enjoyed the private outdoor bath and the really spacious shower. The Japanese breakfast was fun if a little adventurous for us but we still enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend staying here, even if for just one night like us, it was a great experience!

Für die Übernachtung zahlt man den Preis eines First-Class-Hotels, entsprechend hoch sind die Erwartungen. Die Anlage ist schön, die Häuschen modern eingerichtet. Das Zimmer im ersten Stock ist im japanischen Stil (mit Tatami) gestaltet. Toll ist auch das kleine Außenbecken, in dem man sich nach einem Sightseeing-Tag im warmen Wasser entspannen kann. Insgesamt bieten die Häuschen ähnlich viel Platz wie ein geräumiges Hotelzimmer. Einige Abnutzungsspuren wie z. B. kleine Flecken auf dem Teppich und verwitterte Holzverkleidungen neben den Eingängen sind sichtbar. Das Lokal (Bungo) bietet eine hervorragende Küche. Wer die Chance hat das Wagyu Menü zu buchen, sollte dies tun. Das Personal ist jung und motiviert, aber wohl unerfahren. Es kam zu mehreren Pannen: Etwa dem unbegründeten Mitnehmen der Pässe beim Einchecken (zum Kopieren) und vergessenen Teetassen beim Frühstück. Ein Mitarbeiter erklärte uns ausführlich und freundlich die Ausstattung des Zimmers. Leider hat er dann vergessen, uns die Schlüsselkarte auszuhändigen. Aus Versehen haben wir eines der Trinkgläser, die auf dem Zimmer standen, zerbrochen. Das haben wir sofort der Rezeption mitgeteilt. In jedem anderen First-Class-Hotel hätte man uns diskret ein neues Glas aufs Zimmer gestellt. Hier nicht. Zwar wurde am nächsten Tag mit einem Kärtchen und einer Schachtel Tee nachgefragt, ob uns nichts passiert sei. Das Glas wurde aber nicht ersetzt und am Ende berechnet. Das ist berechtigt, wirkt aber bei diesem Preis kleinlich

Lieu typique japonais et atypique dans l’offre hôtelière locale. Paisible et traditionnel. Petites maisons individuelles mitoyennes charmantes, très belles chambres confortables avec bain extérieur et sale d’eau vitrée. Conception intelligente, optimisée et bien pensée. Nous avons passé 3 jours hors du temps! Le prix reste élevé mais nous ne regrettons pas notre choix. Très cohérent avec la dimension traditionnelle préservée de Kyoto. Petit déjeuner japonais à tester!

Beautiful rooms with added benefit of onsen. The breakfast was fun, you get a choice of western or japanese. The welcome was amazing with beautiful sweet treats with tea. I would highly recommend this hotel

Lovely rooms. Delightful staff. Just not the level of service you would expect for the price.
