Great place, great hospitality
This accommodation isn't flash, but it is better than basic. What really made it for me was the hospitality extended by its manager, Jeslynn. It's location is out of central Georgetown, about 30 minutes by bus. This is no bad thing, because the local area invites you to experience local life. You'll be in one of Penang's busiest suburbs, surrounded by locals. The whole place comes alive at night, and there's Penang's largest market (held weekly) about 250 metres away, where you can buy all manner of food, and even a new pet! Having said that, I'm fairly certain that the animals on sale are destined for the dinner table... There's also an amazing array of local restaurants nearby, from excellent varietal vegetarian to Japanese deep-fried shark's fin.
The accommodation ranges from comfortable with shared facilities for the budget-conscious, to comfortable with private facilities for the slightly less budget-conscious. There's also a rooftop terrace outside. A great place for a cold afternoon beer (there's a refrigerator for all to use), it's a relaxing place to sit.
Overall, I really have to thank Jeslynn, the manager. She's a font of knowledge about Penang's attractions and will provide you with as much assistance as you require about how to get to places easily and quickly. Don't be put off by the fact that this place is slightly out of the Georgetown city centre - thanks to Jeslynn you'll get everywhere with the knowledge of a local, yet be able to enjoy the food, flavour and activity of the real Penang at your doorstep.
