How lucky we didn't stay at the hotel!
Only used hotel to access boat trip on lake. When we first arrived we planned to eat there but no one offered any assistance and on balance we are glad we didn't. We had a coffee out of a packet that was very sweet, but at least it was hot. The boat trip was ok but there was nobody to act as a guide which might have been nice. The boatman was good enough to slow down when we wanted to take photos and he was friendly so he made that experience good. From what we saw this is no hotel to plan to visit, just use it to get a boat then leave!

Sunketing
Only stay if you need to
My company booked a few of us here for a week while we did work in the area. The views were nice. The rest, not so much. The wifi didn't work and no one could say when it would work again. The one day it did actually work, no one told us. We found out by chance. Likewise, we were so remotely located that 3G on our phones didn't work either. My room had stained sheets and a dripping toilet that left a large puddle on the floor. There was lizard poo in a number of places. The closet had one hanger. The TV had one fuzzy channel. All the walls were dirty. One day when they cleaned my room they closed the sliding door to the patio area with the curtains obviously trapped in between, and left it open a bit, so it wasn't locked. They also took my extra blanket but never took the used towels. The restaurant was terrible. The menu was small and several items were never in stock. I asked for my food to have no chicken in it... and it came with chicken in it. Breakfast was never served before 8am, despite several of us asking if we could eat earlier since we had to be elsewhere by 8am. The only time they did open at 730 it took 20 minute for my fried eggs to appear. I usually had to get my own silverware and napkins.

If you can find another place to stay go for it!
There is only one thing that is in favour of this hotel, and it is its location. Located on the edge of the lake, the views are pretty. We took two deluxe rooms at MYR 140/ room. The rooms smelled very musty and had a mattress leaning against the wall. On the floor in the rooms were some animal droppings and some mud. I had some problems with the airco: it kept on turning itself of. My friends in the room next door saw the toilet cistern fall of the wall while they were brushing their teeth. Luckily nobody was using the toilet at that moment... Hotel staff could not fix the toilet, and gave my friends a bucket to flush after banging around in the bathroom for half an hour. Food options were very limited, and it was difficult to get one of the staff to stop texting / emailing long enough to take your order. On the positive side: they had cheap Magnum ice cream :-) Be careful if you do trekking around the lake and towards the Orang Asli villages: although it was very dry while we were there, we all ended up with leeches on our ankles. (while wearing boots, and with hiking trousers tucked into our socks)

OK for 2 days and 1 night
This Raya holidays drove to Tasik Chini resort from JB>Muadzam> into Segamat-Kuantan highway> junction to Felda Chini road, 15mins drive then turned left at a signposted junction into a jungle road about 2-3km to resort. The resort surroundings were well kept, clean and felt 'new'. A few new chalets coming up in the vicinity. The parking lot public toilet is working and ok. Parking space for about 15cars and one can also park along the gravel road beside the chalets. The receptionist was friendly and helpful though at a laid-back pace. The best views of the lakes was from the dining hall and buffet dinner was provided; simple fried rice, fried mee, potato chips,2 drinks choice, 7RM per head. Soft drinks and ice-cream sticks were available. We asked for a chalet with the best view of the lakes and were given Teratai 1 for RM 140/night, with air-cond , hot shower, hot-water kettle. Clean room with spotless tiles, clean curtains and bedsheets. However they run out of towels over the Raya weekends. Free simple breakfast for 2. There was a recent lightning strike somewhere near the resort and the Wifi system was down and the fans in the dining hall were not working and no repairs done yet; with the same excuse of no repair during Raya holidays ?. This laid back attitude becomes lackadaisical on Sunday morning; the receptionist was supposed to come at 7am? comes at 8am, the boat booking office, 8am opens at 9am, the private transfer for a tourist couple 730am delayed to 8am...you get the idea. You just grab the attention of anyone that's available- the cook, boatman... and ask for help. There are many choices for boat rides from half hour to 2 hrs covering 12 small interconnecting lakes and the dam. We took the one hour ride-12 lakes and aborigine village visit for RM70. Only one lake was covered with the beautiful lotus plants covering an area of about half a soccer field. Still worth it as some of the flowers were in full pink bloom. The lotus lake actually is near the resort but hidden and the boat will go further round the other lakes first, haha. I saw a beautiful eagle perched on strategic tree eyeing for prey and got some good photos. Other activities are canoeing, angling RM250 for 8 hr boat rent, flying fox (the resort is adjacent to the PLKN- national service training centre, jungle trekking of lowland forest. For tourists coming by bus, the resort can arrange for private car tranfers - costs RM 20, 15 mins ride to the Chini town bus station and the morning bus to Kuantan is at 7am, 830am and 10am. Lake Chini is worth a visit for 1 day and 1 night at least; and the staff told me that Club Med Cherating tourists comes regularly here ,2-3 times a week, package tour.

"Are you sure you want to stay here?"
These were the first words uttered to me as I checked in. Unfortunately I was unable to get on line before I arrived. I stayed in the dormitory for 25rm including breakfast. I was the only person there over the weekend. Bathroom was clean but the bedroom walls were dirty. Clean sheets and pillows and one of the fans worked. No keys for the lockers in the room. I wasn't expecting too much. The staff still watch the television and tut if you disturb them. Breakfast consists of rice, noodles and fried eggs although they will make toast for you at no extra charge. If you are going by bus, please be aware that the buses take different routes to and from Chini. Even though there is a bus stop at the end of the road (only 5k from the resort) when leaving, make sure you hitch a lift to the main bus station. Also, if you forget to get off the bus like me.. go to the police station opposite. If they are changing shift, they will drop you off for 5rm. Cheaper than a taxi and more fun. It's a nice place to relax and walk but all the extras on the lake (boats and canoes) are somewhat overpriced which is a shame. I would have rated this as average but the staff were terrible.(not rude).
