Sea Mountain

Fantastic! Hidden paradise!!! Our room had a nice view of the ocean! Plenty of parking and very clean rooms. We stayed in one of the one bedroom units and it had plenty of space for our family of 4. Loved having laundry in the unit as well!

Family upstairs was very loud with children jumping on floor all night & early morning. Noise comes down very loud. Hotel needs to have no jumping rules in house

This is our fourth trip to Colony 1 at Sea Mount. We stayed there in order to get to the volcano when it was erupting. It worked out well since the condo is about 30 minutes from the volcano. The unit was well taken care of, the kitchen was nice to have so we could make breakfast, since there is no restaurant on site. The bed was comfortable. It was nice to have a clothes washer too.

We have stayed at the colony I at sea mountain in pahala twice. We absolutely love this place, the people are veey nice and make you feel at home. I love the privacy and how quite it is. Its also a 5 minute walk to the beach where you can see the green sea trutles.

We had a wonderful stay! The unit was beautiful, clean, and fully equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing getaway and great staff. The backyard sitting area was a real highlight—grilling steaks on the Weber while watching the waves roll in was such a memorable experience. The only minor downside was that the air conditioning was limited to a portable unit in the bedroom, so it could get a bit warm in the kitchen and living area, especially on more humid days. That said, the bedroom stayed cool for sleeping, and the overall comfort of the space more than made up for it. The location, views, and overall value were fantastic—and the price was very reasonable for everything we got. We’d absolutely love to return if we get the chance!

It’s a beautiful property with nice pool and hot tub. It was great to have washer/dryer in the room, but service was lacking in that they were the only place we stayed that didn’t provide shampoo/conditioner or washer detergent. They ask you to run the dishwasher but don’t provide dishwasher soap. They did provide hand washing detergent. It was the most expensive place that we stayed.

Das heutige Colony I at Sea Mountain in Pahala auf Big Island war ursprünglich Teil eines grösseren Resortprojekts, das jedoch nie vollständig realisiert wurde. Die Anlage wurde als umfangreiches Ferienresort mit diversen Annehmlichkeiten geplant, darunter ein Golfplatz, Tennisplätze und direkter Zugang zum nahegelegenen Punaluʻu Black Sand Beach.  Heute präsentiert sich die Anlage eher als ruhige, abgelegene Ferienwohnanlage mit einem nostalgischen Flair. Einige der ursprünglich geplanten Einrichtungen, wie der Golfplatz, sind derzeit nicht in Betrieb und warten auf mögliche Wiederbelebung. Dennoch bietet die Anlage weiterhin Annehmlichkeiten wie einen Aussenpool, einen Whirlpool, Tennisplätze und Grillmöglichkeiten. Die Nähe zum Punaluʻu Black Sand Beach, der für seine schwarzen Sandstrände und die dort nistenden Meeresschildkröten bekannt ist, bleibt ein Highlight für Besucher. Insgesamt spiegelt das Colony I at Sea Mountain heute eher den Charme des “alten Hawaii” wider, mit einer ruhigeren Atmosphäre und weniger touristischem Trubel als ursprünglich geplant. Mir persönlich hat dieser Ort besonders gut gefallen, da es sehr ruhig war und weit weg von den touristischen Anlagen. Gut zu wissen ist auf jeden Fall, dass es vor Ort kein Restaurant, Bar, Lebensmittelgeschäft oder ähnliches hat. It was nice, relaxing place. Nearby black sand beach with turtles was amazing.

The grounds around the buildings were well kept but the area near to it which was once a golf course is now defunct with buildings that are falling apart. The access area to the coastline just below the property has remnants of trash and things left behind by people camping there. The beach access at the punaluu is close by and was nice enough. We had wanted a place with an ocean view, the condo we got was next to the road and we could hear cars all day heading to punaluu. There were also people who were staying at colony 1 that chain smoked on a bench within earshot of our bedroom window so had to wear earplugs to sleep because they were smoking well last the quiet hours. For the price we paid for this property it was not worth it to us. We would not recommend it. Also.. they hadn’t swept the condo during cleaning very well. I found pieces of broken glass on the floor and they hadn’t mopped it in who knows how long. Our feet were dirty from walking around the condo with bare feet.

I didn't like it. No drinking water, had to pay for a noise air conditioner. The upstair started throwing furniture around at 2:30 during our nap!! The office couldn't tell me how much i paid. The couch and chair was to scratchy to sit on without putting a sheet over them

Peaceful and relaxing stay. Beautiful scenery and a nice pool area. Black sand beach very nearby. Condo was comfortable, clean and well equipped.

Truly an amazing experience - beautiful remote property that’s walking distance to Black Sands Beach - plenty of sea turtles and just gorgeous views with next to no one around. Highly recommend grocery shopping before going and cooking most of your meals. However there are great food truck options nearby - AMA’s kitchen and Encanto were our favorites. Bedding was super comfortable and the Murphy bed was perfect for our 3 year old and the view from our balcony was of the beach and a nice way to start our morning. Staff was super friendly and they have chairs to rent, rice cooker, towels etc that made it super convenient. 10/10 would stay again!

Quiet, beautiful ocean view and near to Volcano N.P. and beautiful black sand beach. Restaurants and grocery stores are limited but we just stopped in Hilo for provisions, made some nice dinners in the full kitchen and ate on the pato watching the sun set over the Pacific. Wonderful location if you want to experience rural Hawaii.

Tranquility, walking distance to the Black Sand beach. Clean, washer and dryer was very convenient. The bed and pillows were amazing! Front desk very friendly and accommodating. Love this place, hope to come back again.

Beautiful place! So quiet and the views are amazing. Super close to the national park. Very well up kept.

Loved the quiet, low key property. Very restful for a refreshing get away. Hardly used the air conditioner as the condo was set up with good cross ventilation. Good base to visit all the attractions on the island. Also, has minimal VOG when the volcano was erupting.

Check-in and check-out was simple and quick. Staff was amazing, and place of stay was perfect along with the location and view. Black Sandy Beach, within walking distance and beeath taking sceneries! Thank you!
