Offered upgrade to suite with either river or weir views and ended up near the bridge overlooking the entrance. That said the suite was lovely although 2 of the TV's werent working, a cupboard door was broken and there was insufficient toilet roll. tea/coffee selection was poor and what there was, was insufficient.
If iy wasnt for the location which is amazing and the local town, the hotel would score badly.

We love this place but it is getting tired. The maintenance is in need of an uplift and the rooms and lounge areas need a refit. Still a lovely stay and Sindhu was excellent for lunch. The reception staff for the hotel were OK but lacked motivation to welcome their guests with any enthusiasm. Breakfast was excellent and the setting for the hotel sets this apart from most.

We were notified that the suite was unavailable due to a maintenance issue. We were downgraded but there was no offer of a refund of the price difference let alone any compensation for spoiling our anniversary. I had been in touch with the hotel to request a particular room with a view of the church across the Thames. I was assured that the suite I had booked had this view but it transpired it actually looked onto a courtyard. It took 3 emails to get an answer that was wrong.
We were given a piece of cake for our anniversary instead of the individual shortbread biscuits we got the second night. I have never seen such small bottles of shampoo etc.
On the first morning there was no hot water as the boiler had broken. There is obviously a problem with maintenance here. The shabby room looks grubby and desperately needs a lick of paint - more carefully applied than last time.
The plus points - the view (although we didn't get the church); the staff at breakfast; and Sindhu, Atul Kochar's wonderful Indian restaurant

Hugely disappointing hotel…understaffed, tired, shabby and dirty. Manager not contactable and didn’t return calls. Stay somewhere else, this is not the Compleat Angler that it was.

The accessible room is not suitable for a disabled person in a wheelchair- just a few tweaks to the bathroom would make such a difference eg a raised toilet with drop down bars and a walk in shower.

The restaurant was really nice for dinner and the view is great. The carpet in the room had a ton of stains, they never came to service the room. We ordered the room service breakfast and it was terrible. Eggs not cooked, coffee press didn’t have a filter so the coffee granules were in the coffee. One slice of bacon for two people and very expensive.

The girl on reception when checking in was really helpful and easily the best staff member we encountered.
After that, things were very average. The room looked tired an in need of some love as it had stains on the carpet and felt flat in colour.
Breakfast was very poor service, with only 4 tables to serve the 2 staff struggled to offer any level of service.
If you throw in how much they charge per room, this is definitely a hotel trading on location and historical levels of quality.
Not worth the money and there’s better places nearby for less

The hotel is not only showing some obvious wear in both the rooms (furnishings) and public areas (corridors/lifts etc.) but particularly could have been improved by simply paying attention. Outside lawn bar areas/furniture are not even being wiped down and this is a highlight area for this hotel. Rooms are not made up in a timely manner 3:45 in the afternoon seems rather late for any room not to mention a suite you want to enjoy time in. Staff comments were less than helpful. This was a 4 day stay and a bit disappointing.

Excellent location but disappointingly no more than a 3*. Room decor and furniture very tired. Whole property needs redecoration and carpets throughout. Completely empty minibar and no drinking water in the room. We were sent a message prior to check in from the hotel offering us a room upgrade but wanting to charge us extra if we accepted it. Surely if there were rooms of a better standard unoccupied would it not be a prudent move to offer those to guests paying 4* prices.

Nice time overall.
Disappointed there was no hot water Saturday night & that we didn’t get robes as stated we would in the deluxe rooms.
Also toiletries very sparse had to ask for soap.
Was thankful we upgraded the room for our parents as their room was lovely. Fabulous view. Staff were delightful but think they could do with more as not enough of them to provide the service you would expect ( isn’t their fault just not enough of them)
Breakfast was lovely and we were very grateful for the later checkout.
