I'll be honest: the hotel has a great location, beautiful views, and is generally clean and well maintained. The complimentary water station, apples, and cookies in the lobby were thoughtful touches and appreciated.
That said, for a property advertised as a five-star hotel, the overall experience fell well short of expectations. We found crumbs left on the table in our room upon arrival, and the carpets throughout the hotel looked worn and questionable. In my opinion, this hotel would be closer to a three-star property by U.S. standards than a true five-star experience in Europe.
Breakfast was priced extremely high, and I was surprised that while I was pouring myself a coffee, a staff member approached me immediately to sign the bill. It felt unnecessary and not in keeping with the level of service expected at a luxury hotel. I was also disappointed that parking is paid separately, despite the premium room rates.
We wanted to visit the rooftop restaurant for a drink and to enjoy the view, but the atmosphere was unwelcoming. We felt as though we were being watched as if we didn't belong, while a group of locals occupied the space, laughing and staring at other guests. It made us uncomfortable enough that we decided to leave.
The spa was the biggest disappointment. Rather than offering a peaceful wellness experience, it felt more like a public swimming pool. Children had unrestricted access, and the constant noise and screaming made it impossible to relax.
